University Marketing & Communications has an exciting opening for an Assistant Director, Philanthropic Marketing & Communications. This is a full-time permanent position.

The Assistant Director, Philanthropic Marketing & Communications reports to the Associate Vice President, Branding & Marketing and is a member of the University Marketing & Communications (UMAC) brand strategy team. This position is integral in developing and executing strategic marketing and communications efforts that support the UW’s comprehensive fundraising campaign and University-wide key initiatives. The Assistant Director develops and executes marketing strategies and content with the goal of increasing awareness of the University of Washington that targets, encourages and increases philanthropic support from a wide and diverse range of audiences. 

What You Will Do:

Development Marketing and Communications (95%)

  • Support University-wide key fundraising initiatives and collective priorities by developing and implementing strategic marketing campaigns that target key audiences.

  • Interpret data and apply research insights to guide strategic marketing and communications decisions.

  • Partner with the digital marketing team and media strategist to create campaigns that grow audience engagement and drive private fundraising support.

  • Collaborate across the UMAC and internal teams to write, edit and evaluate donor engagement materials such as newsletters, web content, email and ad copy, case statements, gift announcements and impact stories.

  • Oversee social media content that supports development-related goals.

  • Support campaign communications to UW volunteers and other internal and external audiences.

  • Interpret data and apply research insights to guide strategic marketing and communications decisions.

  • Handle and maintain confidential materials and information.

Other Duties (5%)

  • Participate in task forces, committees and other forums that address the role of marketing communications in the Advancement program.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, advertising, English, journalism or related field AND at least three years of experience in marketing/communications or related field.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

What You Bring:

  • Experience with Content Management Software and Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Canva) and familiarity with project management and file management tools (e.g., Asana, SharePoint; others a plus).

  • Ability to conceive, implement and evaluate marketing strategies and goals.

  • Demonstrated experience in developing marketing campaigns that persuade audiences to support philanthropic causes.

  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office tools; familiarity with market automation tools, design technology and web platforms such as Word Press.

  • Hybrid role with three days in the Seattle office per week.

  • Position requires a flexible schedule as the workload and times vary.

  • Cubicle/Open workspace environment which may result in additional or higher levels of noise and visual distractions.

$80,400.00 annual

$84,360.00 annual
