Job Description

Pay $65,000 - $70,000 annually

The Assistant Director of Education supports the Director of School Age Education in overseeing daily department operations, coordinating and expanding school services, and ensuring compliance with State Education Department, Office for People with Developmental Disabilities, and Agency regulations and operating standards. This role contributes to the ongoing development of staff, assists with record-keeping and reporting, and participates in administrative team activities to ensure the delivery of high-quality educational services.

Core Responsibilities

  • Assists the Director in the daily oversight of program/department operations, including contributing to budget monitoring, supporting interviewing and hiring processes, and coordinating staff scheduling and coverage.
  • Supports the planning and execution of staff meetings, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions as directed by the Director.
  • Supports the coordination of existing services and assists in the expansion of department services.
  • Contributes to the development of new programs and initiatives in line with program needs and strategic goals.
  • Assists in overseeing and ensuring the timely completion of all necessary records and reports for assigned areas.
  • Supports data collection and analysis related to student progress, program outcomes, and operational metrics.
  • Collaborates with other Agency programs, departments, and inter-disciplinary teams to ensure the seamless delivery of quality services.
  • Assists in coordinating services with state and federal governmental and regulatory bodies, community and local agencies, and health care providers, when applicable, to ensure program needs are met and compliance is maintained.
  • Supports the Director in monitoring the fiscal responsibility of the program/department, managing assigned budget areas.
  • Assists in ensuring ongoing staff in-service and professional development needs are met.
  • Supports the tracking and maintenance of staff certifications and/or licenses to ensure they are current.
  • Participates actively in activities as part of the administrative team, which may include attending meetings, assisting in conducting trainings, and serving on committees.
  • Adheres to mandatory reporting regulations and HIPAA laws.
  • Ensures compliance with all pertinent government and agency regulations and operating standards within areas of responsibility.
  • Contributes to establishing a work environment that fosters positive relationships between supervisors and employees and assists in assimilating new employees to the Agency culture, values, and mission.
  • Provides direct support to educational programs, including assisting with curriculum implementation, material development, and classroom support as needed.
  • May directly interact with students and families to address concerns, provide updates, and facilitate communication.
  • Leads or co-leads specific projects or initiatives as assigned by the Director, ensuring timely completion and adherence to objectives.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field preferred; Bachelor's degree required.
  • Experience as a Special Education Teacher preferred.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of paid experience in educational administration or a related leadership role.
  • NYSED School Building Leader or School Administrator certification (or eligibility/working towards) preferred.
  • Travel is required. Must have a valid NYS Driver's License.
