Job Description

The prorated salary range for this position is $50,000-$85,000. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible 9-month position during the academic year. Benefits continue uninterrupted during school breaks and throughout the summer months.

General Summary

Reporting to the Director of Nursing and under the supervision of the Director of Medical Services, assists the Director of Nursing in managing administrative and clinical operations of the Health Center and oversees the Psychotropic and Neurologic Medication Program (PNMP) by which neuropsychologic medications are dispensed to students. This position also provides health care to students and employees during the academic year, consistent with current, professional nursing practice standards and the policies and procedures of the Health Center.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Assist the Director of Nursing in overseeing administrative and clinical operations of the Health Center, including, but not limited to, supervising orientation of new nurses, ongoing staff education, implementation of quality assurance measures and other duties as assigned.

  • Oversee and manage the Psychotropic and Neurologic Medication Program (PNMP)

  • Orient students, parents and guardians to the PNMP including distribution and collection of necessary documents

  • Order medications and maintain record keeping system for dispensing medications to students

  • Support students in the PNMP and a resource for information for students and their parents and guardians concerning medicines and their side effects

  • Serve as a liaison with various constituencies including prescribing physicians at home, counselors, pharmacies, parents, guardians, teachers and administrators with respect to students in the PNMP

  • Manage and coordinate the services of the school psychiatric provider including scheduling of student appointments, and facilitating communication between the psychiatric provider and parents or guardians, other clinicians, etc.

  • Act as liaison to other Academy departments when necessary.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Serve as Director of Nursing as necessary, including supervision of health center operations and staff
  • Collaborate with Director of Nursing regarding coordination and management of staff including scheduling, training and coverage of open shifts
  • Share administrative call responsibilities at least 2 weeks a month

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Provide the highest quality direct patient care as a staff nurse to students and employees in an effective and collaborative manner per Health Center policies and Standing Orders, including independent assessment and treatment and all associated collateral work such as communication with relevant stakeholders (parents, providers, faculty, etc.) and thorough documentation in Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
  • Routinely monitors students in the PNMP and informs the medical team if significant issue regarding medication side effects, medication efficacy, compliance, student behavior, or other clinical concern.
  • Comply with highest standards of patient privacy
  • Provide a professional, compassionate approach towards all students, their families, employees, and all others involved with the health and well-being of the student
  • Administer injectable vaccines and provide venipuncture services as requested
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Specifications

  • Associates Degree in Nursing required, Bachelor's Degree preferred, from an accredited school
  • 3 - 5 years clinical nursing experience, preferably with adolescents in a health care setting
  • Valid Massachusetts RN license
  • Current BLS Certification
  • Demonstrated leadership experience
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing with students, parents, guardians, counselors, nurses, outside providers and school employees
  • Ability to manage highly confidential and sensitive information
  • Demonstrated history of possessing patience, compassion and understanding in the delivery of medical services
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion and to serving the needs of a diverse community
  • Demonstrated technical expertise including Microsoft Office suite, and a capacity for rapid acquisition of skills in the use of the Electronic Health Record system in use at the Health Center

Physical Demands

  • Close visual acuity to view a computer terminal and reports
  • Ability to stoop, crouch, kneel, reach, feel and hear
  • Ability to frequently bend and lift
  • Ability to stand and sit for sustained periods of time
  • Ability to climb stairs
  • Ability to rarely lift or move up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to rarely push/pull up to 200 lbs.

Working Conditions

The nurse is in an outpatient medical clinic as well as an inpatient infirmary. Occasional exposure to biohazardous materials and body waste

SIGN-ON BONUS

The successful candidate will receive a $1,000 sign-on bonus ($500 paid at time of hire and $500 paid at the end of 90 days of employment.
