The Assistant Director of Nursing Services (ADNS) is a key leader in FBH who works closely with the Director of Nursing, Inpatient Medical Director and Chief Medical Officer to provide leadership, direction, operational structure and quality improvement for departments within their reporting chain.   The ADNS is responsible for providing oversight of the inpatient and outpatient nursing leaders and their reporting chains, as well as inpatient operations in coordination with other leaders. For all assigned programs, in coordination with the DNS, the ADNS identifies areas of opportunity for improved culture, client focus and operational effectiveness and works with nursing leadership and other key leaders to implement improvements that lead to improved quality of care and employee culture.

The Assistant Director of Nursing Services leads those within their reporting chain, facilitating staff development, addressing employee challenges and striving to ensure a positive employee work environment that operates in compliance with FBH’s Mission, Vision, Values, policies and practices.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Identify areas of opportunity for improved culture, client focus and operational effectiveness.  Work with the Director or Nursing, nursing leadership and other key leaders to implement improvements that lead to improved quality of care and employee culture.

  • Help to formulate, evaluate and administer organizational strategy, policy development and program evaluation and improvement.

  • Possess and maintain current knowledge of nursing practices and standards.

  • Promote and sustain initiatives promoted by the agency such as Trauma Informed Care, Person Centered Recovery Planning, Motivational Interviewing, etc.

  • Assist in the oversight of inpatient operations, which includes developing a positive culture, setting policies and practices, determining staffing structure, addressing staffing challenges, addressing escalated issues.

  • Develop and implement job aides, communication tools, training material, written department specific policies and procedures that provide front line employees with the knowledge, tools and resources to effectively carry out their jobs.

  • Directly supervisor the inpatient and outpatient nurse managers and provide indirect oversight of their reporting chains, which include non-RN employees such as Mental Health Technicians, Peer Support Specialists and Discharge Specialists (does not directly or indirectly supervise ARNP or other prescribing employees).

  • Assist and support subordinate leaders with staff development, departmental culture development and to address employee and department level challenges.

  • Ensure compliance with the Revised Code of Washington (RCW), Washington Administrative Code (WAC), and all other laws, rules, regulations, and policies and procedures as it relates to the provision of services.

  • Participate in the interviewing, selecting, onboarding and training of new employees. 

  • Participate in and oversee formal employee performance reviews as well as informal mentoring and coaching. 

  • Participate in assigned work groups, committees and meetings.

  • Maintains and enhances patient and community relationships to ensure that both external and internal customers of FBH have a positive experience with the organization.

  • Assist with staffing by working as a front line employee when other options are not available.

  • Understands the MDS process and appropriately ensures utilization in the care planning process.

  • Participates in the on-call manager rotation for the 24/7 nursing services as needed and provides emergency coverage whenever necessary.  The number of on-call rotations in any cycle will vary depending on the number of staff in a single rotation at any given time, on a rotating basis with the other nursing staff.

  • Remain reasonably available after regular business hours for significantly escalated situations the on-call manager cannot resolve independently.

  • Requires travel between various FBH work sites on a regular or daily basis.

  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFIED APPLICANTS WILL HAVE:

REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor of Nursing graduate of an accredited school.

  • Active registered nursing license.

  • Three years of experience in nursing service leadership.

  • At least three years of operational leadership experience, including building positive workplace culture, developing and implementing effective and efficient policies and practices, and planning and directing quality improvement efforts.

PREFERRED:

  • One year or more of psychiatric nursing experience in leading both inpatient and outpatient psychiatric nursing.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Ability to provide written and verbal information and direction in a manner that is clear, concise, professional, and easily understood by individuals of varied education levels and backgrounds.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead programs and people resulting in positive workplace culture, client centered care and effective operations

  • Advanced organizational skills with attention to detail and strong follow-through.

  • Ability to independently and efficiently manage one’s time and meet deadlines.

  • Moderately skilled in utilization of Microsoft Office suite.

PHYSICAL, SENSORY & ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work is generally performed in an office setting which may involve sitting and use of computers for four to eight hours per day. 

  • Must be able to respond to escalated issues 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, through on-call availability or delegation.

  • May be required to lift 10 - 20 pounds. 

  • Work may be performed out of office and travel may be needed to outside areas.

  • Blood-borne Pathogen Category I- Chance of exposure to blood-borne pathogens

PAY RANGE (Salary/Exempt): $118,389.72 - $144,232.64

  • All pay is based on longevity at Frontier Behavioral Health; thus, the starting pay is $118,389.72 - annually.
