The Assistant Director of Campus Security is responsible for supporting the Director in the oversight of campus security operations, assisting with training, managing access control, and acting as a liaison between contract security officers and college administration. The Assistant Director will help ensure adherence to campus security policies and procedures, assist in student accountability matters, and contribute to investigations involving student conduct and Title IX. This position will require a flexible schedule, generally scheduled for 40 hours a week, on evenings including Friday and Saturdays. This position also includes an on-call response as needed. The Assistant Director serves as the secondary leader of the Security Department and may act on behalf of the Director of Safety and Security during periods of absence, vacation, emergency response, or other situations requiring operational leadership.

Requirements

Essential Functions:

  • Assists in the development, implementation, and maintenance and practice of departmental policies, procedures, and operational standards.
  • Supports the Director in overseeing contracted security services and ensuring compliance with contractual expectations and performance standards.
  • Assists with staffing coordination, scheduling, and operational coverage to meet the security needs of the College.
  • Reviews security reports, incident documentation, and operational records to ensure accuracy, completeness, and appropriate follow-up.
  • Assists in investigations involving student conduct matters, Title IX complaints, campus safety concerns, and other incidents requiring administrative review.
  • Supports the student conduct process through information gathering, interviews, evidence review, report preparation, and communication with involved parties.
  • Participates in and assists with the development and delivery of training programs for security personnel, students, faculty, and staff.
  • May provide direct supervision of student employees, contracted security personnel, interns, and other assigned personnel.
  • Assists with campus access control operations, including key management, lock systems, electronic access systems, and related security infrastructure.
  • Supports compliance efforts related to the Clery Act, Title IX, and other applicable federal, state, and institutional regulations.
  • Assists with emergency management planning, training exercises, emergency notifications, and campus preparedness initiatives.
  • Responds to emergencies and critical incidents as required and assists in coordinating response and recovery efforts.
  • Supports the management and utilization of security technology systems, including surveillance, access control, communication, and related security platforms.
  • Maintains collaborative relationships with campus departments, law enforcement agencies, emergency responders, and community partners.
  • Serves on campus committees and assists with the implementation of programs and initiatives designed to enhance campus safety and well-being.
  • Assists in planning, coordinating, and providing security support for athletic events, student activities, conferences, camps, commencement, alumni events, VIP visits, and other special events.
  • Assists with departmental administration, including project management, equipment oversight, record keeping, and operational planning.
  • Supports security technology initiatives, capital improvement projects, and other campus safety enhancements.
  • Prepares reports, assessments, statistical summaries, and compliance documentation as assigned.
  • Serves as the primary after-hours administrative security representative when assigned or when the Director is unavailable.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Safety and Security or College administration.

Job Requirements:

Education: Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Emergency Management, Higher Education Administration, or a related field preferred. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Experience: At least two years of experience in security, law enforcement, emergency management, public safety, or a related field required. Supervisory experience preferred. Experience in higher education, student conduct administration, Title IX investigations, or campus safety operations is preferred. Valid driver's license required.

Skills:

  • Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and report-writing skills.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, manage multiple priorities, and work effectively under stressful conditions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, visitors, contractors, and public safety partners.
  • Knowledge of security operations, emergency response procedures, crime prevention principles, and risk management practices.
