Assistant Engineer

POSITION SUMMARY

This roleis responsible forassisting with the day-to-day operations of the hotel engineering department, attaining hotel and departmental goals, and adhering to company standards. Supervises, develops and maintains ongoing maintenance operation for hotel, including refrigeration, heating, plumbing, water treatment, preventive maintenance, hotel rooms, HVAC units, ice machines, pools, lighting, kitchen equipment, emergency equipment, water softeners, switch rooms, roof exhausts, electrical substations, etc. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist with maintaining, troubleshooting and/or repairingbuildings' plumbing and electrical systems, including but not limited to replacing worn or defective parts such as switches, fuses, faucets and valves. 

• Assist with property preventative maintenance programs for exterior, public areas and guest room areas. 

• Replace worn or damaged parts such as hoses, wiring, and belts in machines and equipment such vacuum cleaners. 

• Work closely with other departments to ensure prompt response to guest requests for services and repairs.

• Repair, paint, or replace building interior walls, trim, wood, brick, stone, and concrete. 

• Assist other departments with moving furniture and unloading and storing supplies. 

• Greetguests in a warm, friendly manner and correct any maintenance concerns quickly and efficiently to ensure guest satisfaction. 

• Participate in on-call rotation to provide timely response and support for property maintenance needs.

• Clean internal areas of buildings such as storage/boiler rooms, parking lots, public areas, banquet rooms and guest rooms including but not limited to buffing, dusting, sweeping, mopping, washing windows, empties trash cans and consolidates trash for weekly pickup.

• Use all materials, chemicals, and tools safely to avoid waste, unnecessary damage, or accidents.

• Assistin the security of the property including vehicles, tools, furniture, supplies, key cards and guests. 

• Monitorswimming pool and makeappropriate adjustments to ensure proper sanitation and chemical usage when applicable.

• Operate snow removal equipment to maintain parking lots and sidewalks to keep them clean and clear of obstacles when applicable.

• Cut grass and trims weeds, constructs decorative flower garden borders, digs flower beds and plants flowers on property when applicable.

• All other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

No supervisory responsibilities.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Perform routine inspections and maintenance of hotel facilities, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and mechanical systems.

• Respond promptly to guest and staff requests for maintenance or repairs.

• Diagnose and troubleshoot maintenance issues efficiently.

• Repair and maintain furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FF&E) as needed.

• Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards in all maintenance tasks.

• Maintain an organized inventory of tools, equipment, and supplies.

• Assist in monitoring and maintaining energy and water efficiency systems.

• Work collaboratively with other departments to minimize downtime and disruptions.

• Perform routine checks of fire safety equipment, such as alarms, extinguishers, and sprinklers.

• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and schedules.

• Must be able to handle a crisis in a calm, effective manner. This includes upset guests, fire, tornado, armed robbery and assault, bomb threats and accidents.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
