ABOUT THE ROLE

The Transactions team at Welltower is a dynamic, fast-paced, and highly collaborative accounting group focused on complex real estate transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, restructurings, and other strategic investments. Unlike traditional accounting roles, this position offers broad exposure to non-routine high-impact transactions and close partnership with teams across the organization.

This role is primarily responsible for preparing and reviewing transaction-related journal entries, preparing and reviewing technical accounting memos, coordinating transaction execution with internal and external stakeholders, and mentoring staff and senior accountants on the team. The role plays a critical role in ensuring accurate accounting treatment and seamless transaction execution in a rapidly evolving environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform a detail review of executed legal agreements for accounting implications
• Assist with technical accounting research and advisory for upcoming investment transactions
• Prepare or lead the preparation of technical accounting memos for various investment transactions
• Perform a detail review of journal entries for acquisitions, dispositions, and other investment activity
• Prepare journal entries for complex acquisitions, dispositions, and other investment activity
• Assist in creation of new investment structures in Welltower's financial reporting systems
• Oversee the development and maintenance of accounting estimation models
• Oversee the monitoring of financial results of various investment structures
• Collaborate with other departments (Tax, Investments, Finance) on appropriate accounting treatment for various investment structures
• Assist in preparation of quarterly external reporting disclosures for investment transactions
• Supervise and coach accounting staff/seniors

TRAVEL

Some travel is expected for this position.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor's degree in accounting is required
• Work experience of at least five years (Big 4 Accounting Firm preferred)
• Knowledge of accounting theory, including GAAP and IFRS, is required
• Professional certification of CPA or equivalent is strongly desired
• Familiarity with real estate and international experience is a plus

COMPETENCIES

• Expertise of consolidation principles and models (VOE/VIE), lease classification and lease accounting
• Extensive knowledge of financial accounting principles and experience in financial reporting and internal controls
• A strong aptitude for accounting systems; proficiency in software and tools used for financial analysis. Able to troubleshoot issues and extract information for data analysis
• Strong business acumen with an ability to understand financial and investment models
• An ability to build effective relationships with partners as well as colleagues at all levels across the organization
• The ability to prioritize and manage tasks to meet reporting deadlines
• Demonstrated coaching skills
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
• A positive and professional attitude
