Assistant or Associate Professor of Architecture – Research Focus

Overview

The University of Miami School of Architecture (U-SoA) invites applications for full‐time, tenure‐track appointments in Architecture at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.

Candidates are expected to demonstrate a focused program of design-based or applied research while showing a commitment to teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students. The appointment will align with one or multiple areas of strategic investment including a) Sustainable and Resilient Design, b) Building Technology, c) Environmental Systems, d) Landscape, e) Design Computation, and e) Digital Fabrication.

We are committed to social and environmental resilience, interdisciplinary inquiry, and impactful agency both locally and globally. Our mission-driven research and curriculum address contemporary environmental challenges and related stressors. This search, and for all specializations mentioned above, will prioritize candidates whose work tackles these problems in the making, enhancement, and experience of the built environment.

Qualifications

A PhD is preferred, but a terminal professional degree may also qualify when paired with substantial experience and accomplishments in the field. To encourage interdisciplinarity, applications from candidates with a terminal degree outside of Architecture will also be considered, provided their work focuses on the built environment.

The search committee will evaluate the candidates’ (a) ability and/or demonstrated potential to secure external research funding to support an active research agenda, and (b) proven ability to publish peer-reviewed books or articles in leading disciplinary journals.

The University of Miami comprises a vibrant workforce and student body; applicants should be prepared to speak to strategies that promote and enhance a sense of belonging amongst its constituencies.
