Assistant Professor- Information Technology and Software Engineering- Full Time tenure-track

The Department of Computer Science, Mathematics, and Statistics at Vermont State University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Information Technology (IT) and Software Engineering (SE) at the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin in August 2026. This position will be based at the Williston campus.

The new faculty member will be expected to teach a variety of undergraduate courses across all levels, including advanced web development, programming languages, object oriented programming, computer hardware and organization, database systems, data structures and algorithms, systems analysis and design, and software engineering with the capacity to support the learning of multiple programming languages including Java, C/C++ and Rust.

The successful candidate will have earned either a Ph.D. (preferred) or M.S. in computer science or related areas and should have previous teaching experience at the undergraduate level. Candidates with experience teaching in a variety of modalities (in-person, face-to-face-plus, asynchronous online) are encouraged to apply.

The Computer Science, Mathematics, and Statistics Department is comprised of a collaborative and supportive group of faculty that offers programs in Data Science and Applied Statistics, Information Technology, Mathematics, and Software Engineering. The incumbent’s home campus (Williston) offers a unique blend of Vermont’s natural beauty, historic charm, and vibrant local culture with breathtaking hiking trails, delightful farm-to-table eateries, and cozy boutiques that showcase the town’s authentic vibe.

The Information Technology (IT) and Software Engineering (SE) faculty at the Williston campus serve a variety of STEM and health care programs, many of which have external accreditation.

 Job Description and Responsibilities

The new faculty member will be expected to teach a variety of undergraduate courses across all levels, including advanced web development, programming languages, object oriented programming, computer hardware and organization, database systems, data structures and algorithms, systems analysis and design, and software engineering with the capacity to support the learning of multiple programming languages including Java, C/C++ and Rust. Candidates with plans to involve undergraduate students in research and publications are encouraged to apply. We also seek candidates with interest in developing internal and external collaborations.

In addition to teaching and research, faculty at VTSU are expected to participate in and contribute to university committees, scholarship and professional development, student advising, service to the college community, development of curriculum and educational facilities as needed, and other duties related to teaching effectiveness, scholarship, and service to the university community.

Minimum Requirements

Salary

Based on qualifications and experience as defined by VSC-VSCFF Bargaining Unit Agreement.  Per this agreement the minimum salary for an Assistant Professor will be not less than $64,800 USD per annum plus a comprehensive benefit and retirement package.
