Description

EPC, a federal contracting company, is seeking an Assistant Site Safety and Health Officer for a salary position. The position supports the Corporate Safety Manager as an EPC interface to the U.S. Federal Government (customer). The position assists in managing administrative and field construction activities related to the assigned project and will report directly to the Corporate Safety Manager.

Position Summary: Assist with safety orientation, project safety supervision, incident investigation, and ensuring compliance with corporate safety program standards under the direction of the Corporate Safety Manager.

Overall Responsibilities and Duties (Essential Functions)

  •         Assist in the development and/or review of Accident Prevention Plans and Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs).Help monitor hazardous working conditions and support mitigation of unsafe activities through safety management, training, and coordination with supervisory personnel.
  •         Assist in identifying, documenting, and correcting unsafe site conditions in coordination with site operations management.Support the administration of safety activities.
  •         Assist in conducting employee safety orientation training programs.Participate in work area surveillance, audits, inspections, and property damage and personal injury investigations.
  •         Help ensure subcontractor compliance with safety and health requirements.Support the Corporate Safety Manager in the administration of the Company's safety and health program.
  •         Assist project teams in establishing and maintaining an effective safety and health program.Support project-level training and help provide educational training materials.
  •         Participate in pre-job planning and start-up activities.Provide technical assistance and advice to field personnel as directed.
  •         Assist in planning for high-risk activities.Assist in the investigation of accidents and incidents.
  •         Support the management of Worker's Compensation claims.

    Qualifications

    A college degree in Occupational Safety and Health or a related field is preferred or equivalent combination of experience and training in lieu of formal education.
  •         Ability to successfully pass the exam for Occupational Health and Safety Technician (OHST) or Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) within 3 years of hireValid Driver’s License.
  •         Proficiency with Microsoft Office software; experience with Procore is a plus.The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD clearance is required. (This involves a background/character, criminal history, employment, and credit check, and can require a polygraph.)

    Physical Work

  •         Moderate Work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.The individual in this position will periodically walk, kneel, sit, crouch, reach, stoop, read/see, speak, push, pull, lift, stand, and finger/type. The frequency of each action varies by workflow and office activity.
  •         Walking – The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, boxes, cabinets, etc. This position will spend a large amount of time walking projects.Constantly operates a computer and other office equipment, such as a calculator, copy machine, phone, computer, and computer printer.
  •         The person in this position frequently communicates with employees and external stakeholders regarding a variety of topics related to project safety.The person in this position occasionally sits in a stationary position in front of a computer screen.Constantly reads written communications and views mail submissions. Will also need to read blueprints and take/verify field measurements.
