Main responsibilities:

  • Lead the day-to-day operations of the Grocery Department, including Dairy, Frozen Foods, and Beer/Liquor, ensuring sales, profitability, quality, and service goals are achieved.
  • Champion customer service initiatives and foster a culture of exceptional customer experience throughout the store.
  • Oversee inventory management, product ordering, merchandising, pricing, product rotation, and shrink control to maintain in-stock conditions and maximize profitability
  • Supervise, train, coach, schedule, and develop department employees while supporting recruitment, performance management, and succession planning efforts.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, security, company policies, and state and federal regulations.
  • Monitor department financial performance by reviewing sales, labor, inventory, and profit and loss results, and implementing action plans to improve outcomes
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with customers, vendors, and employees while addressing and resolving concerns in a professional manner.
  • Direct total store operations and provide leadership to department managers and store employees in the absence of the Store Director.

  • Knowledge:

  • Extensive knowledge of retail store operations and grocery department management.
  • Knowledge of inventory, merchandising, pricing, and promotional practices.

  • Understanding of employment laws and workplace practices.

  • Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, security, and operational standards.

  • Strong understanding of profit and loss statements, budgeting, and financial reporting.

  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations applicable to retail operations.

  • Proficiency with basic computer software, math, and accounting principles.

  • Abilities:

  • Ability to lead and motivate teams to achieve business objectives.
  • Ability to identify operational challenges and implement effective solutions.

  • Ability to develop and execute short- and long-term business plans.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic retail environment.

  • Ability to work across all areas of the store and provide operational support as needed.

  • Ability to lift and maneuver items weighing up to approximately 50 pounds and remain on feet for extended periods.

  • Educational requirements: High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree in Business, Retail Management, or a related field preferred. (Education not specifically stated in the job description; recommended language based on position level.)

  • Other requirements:

  • Prior management experience in a retail environment.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

  • Regular and reliable attendance.

  • Ability to work in varying temperature conditions, including refrigerated, freezer, and outdoor environments when necessary.

  • Commitment to maintaining company grooming standards, dress code requirements, and operational compliance standards.
