  • Identify and record structural deficiencies such as deterioration, cracking, spalling, fatigue-related details, and scour
  • Assist with review and analysis of inspection data, including preliminary condition states and element-level ratings under the direction of the Team Leader
  • Support preparation of technical inspection reports, including recommendations for repair, rehabilitation, load posting, or further evaluation
  • Assist with basic load rating calculations and structural assessments under the supervision of a licensed Professional Engineer or qualified Team Leader
  • Support development of interim repair recommendations or construction documentation for conditions requiring immediate attention
  • Coordinate inspection logistics with Team Leaders, inspectors, access equipment operators, and traffic control personnel
  • Follow and promote safety protocols, including OSHA compliance, use of personal protective equipment, and safe work practices in traffic, at heights, and in confined spaces
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development related to bridge inspection standards, FHWA guidance, AASHTO updates, and state requirements

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for technical documentation and team coordination
  • Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in demanding field conditions, including varying weather and traffic environments
  • Physical capability to perform field inspection work, including climbing, lifting, and operating around access equipment
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and willingness to learn inspection and condition assessment practices
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel; experience with bridge inspection software a plus
  • Preferred but not required: FHWA or NHI-approved bridge inspection training, one to three years of related experience, or progress toward Professional Engineer licensure
