Job Description

Ares is currently searching for a highly motivated, detail-oriented team player to join as an Associate on the Opportunistic Credit Product Management & Investor Relations Team in the New York City or Los Angeles office.  Ares Opportunistic Credit employs a flexible capital strategy to target debt and structured investments in healthy, stressed and distressed companies, operating in the void between traditional direct lending and private equity.

The Associate will report to the Head of Opportunistic Credit and Private Equity Investor Relations and be a part of the team responsible for all aspects of fundraising, investor relations and product development for the Opportunistic Credit strategy. Responsibilities include (i) creating marketing and client presentations, (ii) completing RFPs and client templates, (iii) writing market / fund updates for investor letters and thought pieces, and (iv) portfolio metric calculations and reporting.  The candidate must have strong organizational, interpersonal, quantitative and analytical skills and must be comfortable multi-tasking and hitting deadlines.

Essential Job Duties

  • Interface and develop strong working relationships with all internal subject matter experts of the Firm (investing, business development, accounting, operations, legal, compliance and human resources)
  • Respond to a broad range of client requests for our various flagship funds and co-investments
  • Build and “own” client materials and various prospect/marketing materials, updating market and fund specific data within existing materials on a recurring or ad hoc basis
  • Drive process for creating responses to investor questionnaires, due diligence and ad hoc requests for existing and potential investors
  • Maintain quantitative and qualitative key metrics on competitors
  • Assist in scoping new fund strategies
  • Help to identify areas of risk and proactively propose innovative business solutions required to increase the efficiency of information flow and communication channels between different areas of the business
  • Take on ad hoc projects and support all other teammates with their work as needed

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 2 years related work experience in the financial services industry, preferably investment banking
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization and represent the Firm in a professional manner
  • Exceptional attention to detail, placing a high priority on accuracy and organization
  • Problem solver with ability to research solutions and suggest resolutions
  • Highly motivated self-starter with the ability to set priorities, multi-task, work well under pressure and monitor own workload to meet aggressive deadlines
  • Creative, ready to think outside the box and add input to improving existing workflows
  • Takes initiative and has a strong work ethic
  • Proficiency in corporate finance and quantitative analysis skills
  • Demonstrated experience working in a team environment with multiple tasks
  • Comfort utilizing AI tools to enhance productivity
  • Highly proficient in Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Demonstrated strong academic performance
  • SIE, Series 7 and 63 or ability to obtain within 90 days of start date

Compensation

The anticipated base salary range for this position is listed below. Total compensation may also include a discretionary performance-based bonus. Note, the range takes into account a broad spectrum of qualifications, including, but not limited to, years of relevant work experience, education, and other relevant qualifications specific to the role.

$125,000.00 - $145,000.00
