Job Description

Associate Attorney – Civil Litigation

A highly respected Pacific Northwest litigation firm is seeking an Associate Attorney to join its growing Portland office.

This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney who wants to build real litigation and trial experience in a collaborative, high-level defense practice. The firm is known for its strong courtroom presence, sophisticated civil defense work, and commitment to developing attorneys into skilled litigators—not just case managers.

Unlike high-volume settlement practices, this team provides associates with meaningful responsibility, direct client interaction, and hands-on involvement in every stage of litigation.

Practice Areas Include:• General liability• Premises liability• Personal injury defense• Insurance-related litigation• Complex civil defense matters

What You’ll Do:• Handle litigation matters from intake through resolution• Draft and argue motions, manage discovery, and take depositions• Evaluate liability exposure and insurance coverage issues• Work directly with clients, carriers, and opposing counsel• Participate in hearings, mediations, and trial preparation• Collaborate closely with experienced trial attorneys on complex matters

Why Attorneys Are Interested in This Opportunity:• Real courtroom and litigation experience early in your career• Lean team structure with significant hands-on responsibility• Sophisticated, defensible litigation matters—not high-volume churn• Strong mentorship from experienced litigators and trial attorneys• Collegial, respected firm culture with long-term growth potential• Opportunity to develop into a true trial attorney

Qualifications:• JD from an accredited law school• Active Oregon Bar admission required• 2–5 years of civil litigation or insurance defense experience• Strong legal writing, analytical, and advocacy skills• Ability to independently manage files while working collaboratively• Interest in long-term litigation and trial practice development

This is a targeted opportunity for someone who wants to sharpen their litigation skills, gain meaningful courtroom exposure, and grow with a well-regarded Pacific Northwest defense firm.
