Job Summary

The job uses best practices and knowledge to plan, prepare, and disseminate information designed to keep the public informed of the University's perspectives, programs, and accomplishments. Devises strategy relating to marketing, press relations, creative editorial and design services, and internal communications.

Responsibilities

  • The Associate Director Video and Multi-Media Communications (Associate Director) reports to the Senior Director of Communications and is responsible for developing video content as part of multi-media campaigns and communications.

  • Acts as an experienced videographer, producer and editor, adept at creating, editing, producing and posting video content for all digital platforms.

  • Produces videos and other multi-media communications that portray the innovative work and priorities of UChicago Medicine, Biological Sciences Division, and Pritzker School of Medicine that inspire and engage donors and prospects. Multi-media communications may target different audiences and constituencies such as prospects, donors, volunteers, and/or alumni.

  • Manages video production for stewardship activities, including maintaining brand compliant templates for ThankView and Canva video production in partnership with the Design team. The Associate Director advises MBSD colleagues on creative strategy and production options for video development.

  • Creates videos for presentations, campaigns, donor stewardship, gift announcements, and other digital communications, as well as outreach and volunteer engagement events. Together with the Senior Director, Communications, the Associate Director develops videos to support MBSD's priorities that are used for websites, campaigns, e-news, social media, and other communications.

  • Primary author on products such as, but not limited to: Videos (script writing, production, and editing), including high-production videos filmed in studio and on location, and those developed and/or disseminated through apps, such as Canva and ThankView; Video dissemination through digital marketing campaigns, including use of automated marketing systems, such as Salesforce Marketing Cloud, and social media; Video production that portrays faculty research and other work for outreach events and other communications; and video production that supports grant applications.

  • Develops, plans, and disseminates information designed to keep the public informed of the organization's programs, accomplishments, or point of view.

  • Solves moderate to complex problems related to the writing, preparation, and/or delivery of information from or about the unit.

  • Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Work Experience:

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 5-7 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, public relations, marketing, advertising, or business management.

Experience:

  • Five or more years of progressively responsible experience in communications, marketing, public relations, or management - preferably in an academic medical center environment.

  • Multi-media communications experience, including video storytelling and ability to operate a camera and edit videos.

  • Experience with automated marketing systems, such as Salesforce Marketing Cloud.

Preferred Competencies

  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, as well as a demonstrated ability to think creatively.

  • Meticulous attention to detail, the ability to respond to constantly shifting priorities, to exercise sound judgment, to anticipate problems and create solutions, and to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
