Job Description

We are seeking an Associate Mechanical Engineer to join our Federal Engineering and Design Team. You’ll be part of a team, working on complex mechanical system designs for high-impact federal infrastructure projects. You will support the design of mechanical systems, primarily HVAC and plumbing, for infrastructure projects. These include VA hospitals, DoD facilities, offices, barracks, and other government buildings that serve veterans, military personnel, and federal agencies. You will also assist in preparing calculations, writing technical reports, and producing construction documents in Revit.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide small-scale mechanical design elements for federal engineering projects using fundamental knowledge, standard techniques, and established methods for small to mid-sized projects.
  • Perform basic plan production and receive direction on assigned tasks, including drafting and detailing mechanical components for construction documents.
  • Develop and apply knowledge and experience working within design/modeling software (e.g., Revit, AutoCAD, and discipline-specific mechanical tools) to support project deliverables.
  • Assist with preparation of project documentation and schedules; perform design calculations within a limited scope and under guidance of senior engineers.
  • Support mechanical system design and documentation for federal facilities, which may include HVAC and plumbing from concept through construction.
  • Assist with load calculations and mechanical system sizing; support development of design narratives, basis-of-design documentation, and technical reporting as needed.
  • Coordinate with experienced engineers and designers on non-routine techniques and procedures; collaborate with other disciplines (structural, civil, electrical) to support integrated design.
  • Gather research, recommend solutions, and create drafts of technical reports using prescribed methods and internal standards.
  • Mentor student interns by providing opportunities to develop foundational technical skills and knowledge; may supervise student staff as needed.
  • May travel and work in various terrains and weather conditions at project sites in different stages of construction (site visits, observation, coordination, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications

  • A minimum of one year of engineering experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related engineering field.
  • Possesses Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification.
  • Proficiency in Revit and HVAC design software.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to contribute and work well with a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to travel and work in field conditions as needed.
  • Solid interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

Why Join Us

  • Contribute to projects that serve veterans, military personnel, and federal agencies.
  • Choose from remote, hybrid, or in-office arrangements that support your lifestyle and productivity.
  • Join a team that values mentorship, innovation, and shared success. We celebrate wins together and learn from challenges.
  • Advance your career through leadership roles, technical training, and exposure to high-profile federal clients.
  • Enjoy competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits, and a workplace culture that puts people first.
