Job Description

Reviews, processes & files documents submitted to the Court; ensures that all documents are consistent with the Rules and procedures of the Court; and serves as a resource for attorneys and other parties to answer procedural questions.

This position will be required to be in the office during the training period and may be eligible for a hybrid teleworking schedule.

Job duties for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Receives & reviews filings for compliance with the Rules of Civil Procedure &/or the Court; rejects documents as necessary, citing the specific violation; returns rejected documents to filing party; accepts documents that are in compliance.
  • Receives and processes new cases and incoming information, including stamping date on materials received; evaluates types of case, assigns case number, and enters data into the case management system.
  • Closes cases upon receipt of initiating documents, such as judgments & settlement agreements.
  • Receives money and issues receipts for fees & costs.
  • Responds to inquiries from attorneys, litigants, or other constituents in person or by phone; determines the appropriate response based on standard procedures; drafts written correspondence when required.
  • Provides forms, applications & other materials to the public; retrieves files for the public; makes copies of requested material.

Associate Clerk:

High school diploma or the equivalent and 2 or more years of progressive office support experience.

Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.

Assistant Clerk:

High school diploma or the equivalent and 3 or more years experience in court case management, case processing, or a legal/administrative support setting.

Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.

Preferred Qualifications

Completion of associated core coursework in paralegal studies, secretarial science or business office applications from accredited career school or community college. Prior experience in a court/legal office setting or claims management highly preferred.
