Job Description

Gilead is a research-based biopharmaceutical company that discovers, develops, and commercializes innovative medicines in areas of unmet medical need. With each new discovery and investigational drug candidate, we seek to improve the care of patients living with life-threatening diseases around the world.

Role Overview

The Antibody Discovery group is a specialized team within the Protein Therapeutics function that is responsible for the discovery of biologics for drug candidates and critical reagents. We are currently seeking a highly motivated Associate Scientist to join the team. The successful candidate will contribute to antibody discovery efforts as part of a cross-functional team focused on identifying novel biologic modalities to support all therapeutic areas at Gilead.

Job Responsibilities:

This is a fully on-site, highly hands-on role with approximately 80% of time spent in the vivarium supporting rodent-based antibody discovery studies. The successful candidate will contribute to the generation of novel antibody-based therapeutics and reagents.

  • Conduct rodent immunizations using a variety of administration routes, including tail vein (IV), intraperitoneal (IP), intramuscular (IM), and subcutaneous (SubQ) injections.

  • Perform tissue collection, processing, and sample preparation, including blood, spleen, lymph nodes, and other tissues of interest for downstream analyses.

  • Manage mouse colonies, coordinate immunization studies, and maintain accurate study records and inventory.

  • Maintain safe, compliant, and well-documented laboratory and vivarium practices in accordance with SOPs, IACUC protocols, regulatory requirements, company policies, and data integrity standards.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners to support the characterization and evaluation of antibody candidates.

  • Contribute to the development, optimization, and implementation of innovative antibody discovery platforms and workflows.

  • Analyze, interpret, and present scientific data in project team meetings and other scientific forums.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience with BS degree in a related scientific discipline. 4+ years of experience with MS degree in a related scientific discipline.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in rodent handling, immunization, and in vivo study support.

  • Prior experience supporting rodent colony management.

  • Experience with a variety of immunization modalities, including DNA- and mRNA-based immunogens, is preferred.

  • Experience with in vivo imaging techniques is preferred.

  • Experience with ELISA, flow cytometry (FACS), and mammalian cell culture is highly desirable.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with an ability to work in a dynamic, collaborative, and evolving environment.

  • Independently plans and executes assigned experiments that support routine research activities and project goals.

  • Willingness and ability to learn new methods and skills.

  • Works with minimal supervision on projects of moderate to complex scope.

  • Demonstrates and applies advanced level of understanding project goals and methods.

  • May recommend alternatives, researches new methods and techniques and proactively seek out senior personnel to discuss potential solutions to problems.

The salary range for this position is: $109,650.00 - $141,900.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
