BUILD YOUR CAREER SUPPORTING ENGINEERS, BUILDERS, AND DESIGN PROFESSIONALS

As an Associate Engineering Support Representative, you will serve as a key resource for customers and internal teams seeking guidance on Simpson Strong-Tie's structural connectors, anchoring systems, lateral systems, software, and engineered solutions. This role is ideal for someone with a background in construction, building products, drafting, engineering support, or residential construction who enjoys helping others solve technical construction-related challenges.

You will work closely with engineers, contractors, architects, building officials, and sales teams to interpret plans, answer product application questions, research solutions, and support engineering projects. Success in this role requires an understanding of construction practices, structural drawings, and building products rather than traditional IT or software troubleshooting experience.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Support Customers and Industry Professionals (45%)

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for engineering and product support inquiries related to Simpson Strong-Tie structural building products.
  • Assist contractors, engineers, architects, building officials, and sales teams with product selection, application guidance, and installation questions.
  • Interpret construction plans, structural drawings, and project specifications to help identify appropriate product solutions.
  • Respond to inquiries received through the Engineering Support phone queue.

Research and Resolve Product Application Questions (30%)

  • Research customer inquiries utilizing engineering test data, technical literature, code reports, product documentation, and internal resources.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to identify practical solutions for construction and structural applications.
  • Document findings and communicate recommendations clearly to customers and internal partners.

Provide Written Engineering Support (15%)

  • Respond to technical inquiries submitted through company websites and email channels.
  • Prepare professional written responses regarding product applications, code compliance documentation, and engineering resources.
  • Translate complex construction and engineering information into clear guidance for customers.

Support Engineering Projects (5%)

  • Assist engineers with technical letters, test report reviews, product research, and custom connector or hanger designs.
  • Support documentation and engineering-related administrative activities as needed.

Contribute to Continuous Improvement (5%)

  • Participate in special projects and departmental initiatives.
  • Help improve internal knowledge resources and customer support tools.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience in construction, building materials, engineering support, drafting, estimating, project coordination, residential construction, or a related field.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, structural drawings, and specifications.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain technical construction concepts to a variety of audiences.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to learn building code requirements, product applications, and engineering-related processes.
  • Strong problem-solving and research skills.
  • Working knowledge of basic algebra, geometry, trigonometry, ratios, and measurements commonly used in construction environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering Technology, Engineering, Architecture, Drafting, or a related field.
  • Experience supporting engineers, contractors, architects, builders, or building product manufacturers.
  • Residential or commercial construction experience.
  • Familiarity with structural connectors, anchoring systems, framing hardware, or other construction products.
  • Experience using Salesforce, Smartsheet, AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, or similar industry-related software.
  • Previous experience reviewing plans, shop drawings, or construction submittals.
