Job Description
Job purpose
- Assist and partner with Operations Manager in leading and managing Field Operations for Landscape Management Division of a multi-million dollar landscape firm.
- Oversee maintenance crews by directing daily, weekly, and monthly operations, optimizing productivity, teaching and training, and assuring proper maintenance and allocation of department equipment and resources.
- Drive quality, excellence in service, and efficiency of execution to assure happy clients, a well-trained team, and profitability.
Duties and responsibilities
Schedule and route maintenance staff daily & weekly with goal of maintaining 90-95% billable hours with staff.
Check crew work & properties for quality of workmanship.
Oversee and check daily job P&L tracking, employee attendance, hours tracking, employee vacation, GPS driving reports.
Participate in employee evaluations, performance improvement, course correction and disciplinary action as needed.
Run Maintenance meeting every morning before crews leave for the day
Check job progress
Assign daily tasks
Handle any issues or concerns
Participate in Garden & Property Managers meeting at end of every work day
Check job progress
Handle any issues or concerns that pertain to Maintenance crews
Run Wednesday safety meetings with crews.
Assure supply stocks are maintained and help facilitate getting them where needed.
Match invoices with orders.
Step in to work on crew when needed
Teach, train and instruct staff on proper practices and methods to do variety of Landscape Management tasks.
Assist in equipment purchasing decisions.
Will jump in and physically assist or lead crew when necessary.
Snow season
Manage areas, crews, and individual staff.
Route services and assist in problem solving
Check & Inspect equipment for issues
Assemble sub-contractors for plowing and route them.
Order snow plow and supplies
Handle dispatching of snow team
Qualifications
- Education: 2- or 4-year degree in related field or equivalent experience.
- Experience: 2 or more years' experience leading Landscape Management Operations in some capacity. 5 or more years of experience in execution of Landscape Management services.
- Knowledge: Require working and through knowledge of most things landscape maintenance from service execution, to equipment.
- Skills: Leadership/Management skills required, technical/trade related skill pertinent to landscape management: mowing, trimming, bed work, horticultural hand pruning, planting - additional skills in lawn care and lawn renovation, plant care and fertilization irrigation systems, and water features a significant plus. Some computer skills are necessary including: Word, Excel, Outlook, ability to learn and navigate internet, mobile phone, apps, and learn CRM and estimating software with relative ease.
- Characteristics: Organized, Driven, Self-motivated go-getter, with whatever it takes mentality. Supportive, team player that takes pride in his/her work and the success of the team. Good problem solver and collaborator.
- Professional Certifications: All a major plus.
Working conditions
This position requires adaptability. Days begin in office followed by site visits, job checks, site or crew problem solving and occasionally running a service route. Days end at the shop, where you are assisting in planning and preparing crews for the following day and 1 or 2 days a week securing and locking shop.
Physical requirements
This position is multi-faceted and in numerous environments. It requires some physical ability, where part of the day you are in the field. Some days will be spent moving from site to site in a truck and other times in your office or at your desk. Usually, it is all 3 to some degree each day.
To be considered for this position, the candidate must:
- Be willing and able to work 8-10 hours per day, 5-6 days per week.
- Pass a pre-employment background and driving record check.
- Have reliable transportation to and from work.
- Be authorized to work in the United States.
