Athletic Trainer – U.S. Army Holistic Health and Fitness (H2F)
Location: Ft. Wainwright, Fairbanks, AK Program: U.S. Army Holistic Health and Fitness (H2F) Employment Type: Full-Time
Overview
The Athletic Trainer will support the U.S. Army’s rapidly expanding Holistic Health and Fitness (H2F) program, the Army’s largest human performance optimization initiative. This role is part of an interdisciplinary team focused on improving soldier readiness, reducing musculoskeletal injuries, and enhancing overall performance.
The H2F program, launched in 2018 and scaled across brigades beginning in 2020, has demonstrated measurable impact, including a 23% increase in ACFT pass rates and significant reductions in injury rates. It is currently active in 45 brigades, with expansion to 110 brigades expected by FY2027.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
As an Athletic Trainer supporting the H2F initiative, you will:
Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, which may include physical therapists, strength and conditioning coaches, dietitians, cognitive performance specialists, and occupational therapists.
Contribute to soldier readiness through prevention-focused care, acute injury management, and rehabilitation for musculoskeletal injuries.
Implement performance optimization strategies across the five H2F readiness domains: physical, mental, nutritional, sleep, and spiritual.
Support unit leaders with evidence-based strategies to reduce injuries, promote recovery, and enhance overall unit readiness.
Utilize data and tools developed by the Center for Initial Military Training (CIMT) to track and improve performance outcomes.
Serve as a key contributor to improving soldier performance, ACFT pass rates, and overall resilience.
Minimum Requirements
Degree: Bachelor’s degree.
Education: Graduate of a CAATE-accredited Athletic Training program; passing score on the BOC exam; National Provider Identifier (NPI).
Certification:
Unrestricted state license/registration/certification in any regulated U.S. state or territory.
Must obtain in‑state licensure during onboarding.
Experience:
Two years of relevant Athletic Training experience within the last three years.
Experience working with active populations (military, high school, collegiate, professional sports, performing arts, occupational health).
Citizenship: U.S. citizenship required.
Credentialing: Ability to pass background check and drug screen; current physical and immunizations.
Physical Demands
This is an on‑site, dynamic role requiring adaptability in a fast‑paced environment.
Duties may shift throughout the day and involve hands‑on interaction with soldiers during training and recovery.
Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds and work on foot, outdoors, and while carrying supplies.
