Job Description

Overview:

The Outreach Contingent Athletic Trainer will provide athletic training services for practices and competitions at schools and community partners on an as needed basis.  Hours for this position will primarily occur during afternoons, evenings, and/or weekends. 

Job Description Summary:

Supports NCH Sports Medicine services for patients at schools, colleges/universities, and community partners. Provides athletic training services in collaboration with physicians to pediatric, adolescent, and young adult populations, including injury prevention programming, injury evaluation and management, rehabilitation, and coordination of care, in addition to contributing to hospital-based programming. Serves as an ambassador of Nationwide Children's Hospital, fostering relationships with school and community partners, patients, and their families while promoting health and wellness.

Job Description:

Essential Functions:

  • Supports the delivery of high-quality patient care in community and school settings, by performing age-appropriate evaluations, triage, treatments, and return to play decisions for pediatric and adolescent patients, along with event coverage and emergency planning.
  • Completes timely and accurate documentation of injuries, treatments, and encounters in the electronic medical record in accordance with NCH and partner school policies. Ensures proper communication with healthcare providers and maintains HIPAA and FERPA compliance.
  • Develop professional relationships and coordinate athletic healthcare services with patients, families, school, and medical communities to become a valued healthcare resource, while delivering a high level of customer service, and continually look for ways to improve the quality of their patient experience.
  • Maintains knowledge of scientifically based and medically established best practices for pediatric and adolescent sports medicine care and a commitment to remaining up to date in clinical care.
  • Committed to self-directed professional growth and participates in staff development, continuing education, and community engagement activities sponsored by NCH.

Education Requirement:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training or related field, required.
  • Master’s Degree, preferred.

Licensure Requirement:

  • Licensed as an Athletic Trainer in the State of Ohio, required.
  • Valid Ohio driver’s license and proof of auto insurance as required by hospital policy and position-specific requirements. Must pass motor vehicle background inspection, insurance eligibility, driving qualifications, and training set forth by Nationwide Children’s Hospital and maintain qualification of insurance guidelines.

Certifications:

  • Certified with the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer, required.
  • CPR certification, required.

Skills:

Proficient with MS Office and electronic medical records.

Experience:

Three years of outreach or school-based athletic training experience, preferred.
