ATTORNEY PHONE ADVISOR
A full-time opportunity is available for an experienced attorney to provide legal advice to individuals primarily by telephone from a Hauppauge, New York-based legal services operation.
This role offers an alternative to a traditional law firm practice, with no traditional caseload, no billable-hour requirement, and no regular court schedule. Attorneys manage incoming calls, identify and assess legal issues, ask pertinent questions, review documents when appropriate, conduct legal research as needed, and provide practical legal advice based on applicable law and sound legal judgment.
Responsibilities
- Manage incoming calls through the Legal Counsel Team.
- Identify and assess members' legal issues.
- Ask pertinent questions and actively listen to client responses.
- Provide legal advice based on applicable law and sound legal judgment.
- Document client matters in proprietary systems.
- Review documents on behalf of clients.
- Conduct legal research when necessary.
- Synthesize facts and law to formulate practical legal advice.
- Build rapport with clients and provide a strong telephone experience.
- Maintain confidentiality of client and firm matters.
- Perform administrative and management functions related to the practice of law.
- Refer more involved matters for potential retention when appropriate.
Qualifications
- J.D. required.
- New York Bar admission before 2021 required.
- Must remain active and in good standing with the New York Bar.
- Experienced attorneys preferred.
- Strong New York legal experience preferred.
- Landlord/Tenant experience is highly desirable.
- Experience in Estates, Estate Planning, Elder Law, Family/Matrimonial Law, Employment Law, Collections, or Intellectual Property is preferred.
- Strong research, writing, verbal communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong customer service orientation.
- Excellent telephone communication and rapport-building skills.
- Ability to ask pertinent questions, actively listen, and synthesize information.
- Retired attorneys are welcome.
Location & Work Arrangement
The position is based in Hauppauge, NY, and is intended for Long Island-based attorneys. Initial training is onsite. Following training, hybrid or fully remote arrangements may be available depending on circumstances, commute distance, and business needs.
Compensation & Benefits
- $85,000 base salary.
- Discretionary year-end bonus paid in December.
