The Role

Join an enthusiastic and cutting-edge team here at General Motors in the Automated Driving Performance HIL team!  ADAS is a rapidly developing domain, deploying multiple new features, subsystems and sensing systems to the vehicle, and a key part of GM’s Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions, Zero Congestion vision.  This is a great opportunity to join our team as an Automated Driving Performance HIL Infrastructure Engineer!

Our group is responsible for a simulation toolchain used to evaluate the vehicle level performance of ADAS control features. The toolchain is anchored in a realistic 3D virtual environment, and represents sensors, physical vehicle systems, and control systems utilizing a variety of hardware (HiL) configurations running in real-time.

You’ll partner with software, capability, and program execution teams to move their testing from prototype vehicles to the virtual domain, working on features such as automatic emergency braking, lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, SuperCruise lane centering and more.

This role involves simulation capability and toolchain development as well as some program execution support as related to ensuring the team delivers results on time and with quality.

What You'll Do

  • Create & integrate models, software and hardware into our simulation infrastructure

    • These can include Simulink models to represent consumed serial data, 3d virtual road network and traffic scenarios, Carsim, dSPACE ASM & other plant models to represent the vehicle’s physical systems, and sensor models used by the ADAS controller

  • Manage hardware-in-the-loop simulators (dSPACE, etc.) to support customers’ automated driving control code development and validation objectives

  • Partner with the ADAS community to identify new opportunities to utilize simulation, decreasing reliance on physical test properties

  • Advance the development of the core co-simulation infrastructure.  Scout new technology & methods for opportunities to improve system capability, efficiency and robustness

  • Actively foster a collaborative and productive work environment

Your Skills & Abilities

  • Experience with any of the following:

    • Model, software, or hardware in the loop control system simulation experience, especially with dSPACE HiL and Simulink

    • Vehicle controls system experience (ADAS, chassis controls, powertrain controls, etc.), in algorithm development or calibration.  Including expertise with CAN or automotive ethernet.

    • Active safety, automated driving, or autonomous vehicle related experience – in software development, calibration, design/release, testing, or validation.

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering or other related engineering degree

  • 5yrs of experience with 3yrs of experience in HIL simulation and test execution

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work in a highly collaborative, diverse, multi-functional team and with a broad customer base

  • High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual, difficult and ambiguous

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge

  • Virtual environment and sensor modeling software experience- such as dSpace ASM/Aurelion, CarSim, Hexagon Virtual Test Drive (VTD), CARLA, Carmaker, Prescan, SCANeR, rFactor, Forum8, or Mathworks Automated Driving System Toolbox

  • Experience with SOME/IP.

  • Experience with Software Defined Vehicle (SDV).

  • Background with Python scripting for test automation applications

  • Vehicle dynamics / brakes / steering / chassis controls experience, especially in controls simulation

  • Experience with automotive control system instrumentation, such as INCA or ETAS

  • Data analytics experience

  • Autodesk 3ds Max, Unity, Unreal, or other computer graphics / visual effects experience

  • Full motion or static driving simulator experience

  • Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering or other related engineering degree

  • 5yrs experience in HIL simulation and test execution

  • Experience with Vector tools in HIL simulation and test execution.
