Job Description

NVIDIA has continuously reinvented itself for more than two decades. The invention of the GPU in 1999 fueled the growth of PC gaming, redefined modern computer graphics, and transformed parallel computing. More recently, GPU-accelerated deep learning ignited the modern AI revolution and marked the beginning of the next era of computing. This era now extends beyond the digital world into physical AI, including humanoid robotics and self-driving vehicles. NVIDIA is a true learning machine that constantly evolves to take on challenges that are uniquely difficult, deeply meaningful, and capable of changing the world.

At NVIDIA, we build system, hardware, and software technologies that enable autonomous vehicles to think, reason, and drive safely. Our Hardware Safety Engineering team is seeking a highly motivated engineer who is driven to take initiative. The ideal candidate has a primary background in either board design or functional safety, with demonstrated exposure to the complementary domain. As an Automotive Hardware Safety Engineer, you will help build the next generation of DRIVE AGX ECU platforms for autonomous driving. You will collaborate across teams and work with some of the most advanced technologies in the industry. Your work will contribute to safety-critical systems that integrate DRIVE AGX ECUs with camera, RADAR, and LiDAR sensing, as well as path planning and vehicle dynamics. This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of autonomous driving innovation where safety, hardware, and AI converge.

What you'll be doing:

You will be working closely with SOC and Board hardware, software, and systems engineering teams to deliver safety compliant NVIDIA's DRIVE AGX autonomous driving hardware. Specific responsibilities of the role include:

  • Collaborate with architects and designers across multidisciplinary teams to develop creative and efficient implementations of safety requirements in ECU hardware and software

  • Perform safety analyses, including FMEA, FMEDA, DFA, FTA and verification activities, to ensure NVIDIA designs meet the highest safety standards and to drive improvements when gaps are identified

  • Work with third-party suppliers to understand their safety concepts and requirements, ensuring all hardware components meet stringent safety expectations

  • Write safety manuals, analysis reports, and user guides to help our customers safely integrate our products

What we need to see:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related engineering field (e.g. electrical engineering, computer engineering, or computer science) or equivalent experience.

  • You have 2+ years of relevant work experience

  • Fundamental understanding of common ECU hardware elements, including processors, power supplies, memory devices, automotive interfaces, and communication protocols

  • Knowledge of safety analysis methodologies, including FMEA, FMEDA, DFA, and FTA

  • Proven sense of ownership and proactivity, with a strong bias for action and results

  • Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills

Ways to stand out from the crowd:

  • Understanding of functional safety development processes required to comply with ISO 26262, or other relevant industry standards such as IEC 61508 and ISO 13489.

  • Experience with failure rate calculations per IEC 62380 and SN 29500 reliability standards.

  • Experience writing requirements for safety critical systems.

  • Experience in PCB and/or ECU design, and embedded systems based on NVIDIA SoCs

  • Background with system modeling using SysML and structured technical documentation (e.g., DITA, DocBook)

NVIDIA empowers automakers, Tier-1 suppliers, researchers, and startups to develop and deploy AI for autonomous vehicles. Its unified AI computing architecture enables training deep neural networks on NVIDIA DGX systems and deploying them in vehicles using NVIDIA DRIVE AGX, with over-the-air updates that add features throughout the vehicle's lifecycle.
