Job Description
The Backfill Operator is responsible for operating heavy equipment used in backfilling trenches, compacting soil, and supporting underground utility installation projects. This role plays a critical part in ensuring trenches and work areas are restored safely and according to project specifications while maintaining production and safety standards.Location: Harlingen, TX (project anticipated to be over one year in duration with travel opportunities available after project completion)Job Type: Full-TimeBenefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, 401(k), PTO, Paid Holidays, Travel Opportunities
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate heavy equipment including loaders, skid steers, compactors, and other machinery used for backfill operations
- Backfill trenches and excavations safely and efficiently
- Ensure proper compaction and grading of soil and materials
- Work closely with pipe crews, operators, and supervisors to support utility installation activities
- Follow grade stakes and project specifications
- Conduct daily equipment inspections and perform minor maintenance
- Maintain clean and organized jobsite conditions
- Follow OSHA and company safety procedures at all times
- Assist with additional construction duties as needed
Qualifications:
- Previous experience operating heavy equipment in utility or civil construction preferred
- Knowledge of trench safety, soil compaction, and underground utility work
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Strong attention to safety and equipment operation
- Dependable attendance and strong work ethic
- Valid driver's license preferred
