Summary

The Banking Group Senior Portfolio Officer provides strategic leadership for Portfolio Management teams within an assigned Banking Group and serves as a senior leader within Credit Administration. This role is accountable for talent development, portfolio management execution, risk discipline, process excellence, and regulatory readiness while supporting the Bank’s growth objectives. The position develops and influences enterprise portfolio management practices, develops future leaders, and promotes consistent, high-quality credit risk management across the organization.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead, develop, and manage Portfolio Manager Team Leads; build a high-performance, accountable culture focused on excellence, collaboration, and leadership development.

  • Provide strategic oversight of assigned Banking Group’s portfolio management activities to ensure consistent underwriting quality, sound risk management, and adherence to the Bank’s credit appetite and policies.

  • Lead process improvement, technology adoption, and operational efficiency initiatives, including workflow enhancements, nCino usage, AI-enabled efficiency opportunities, and portfolio management best practices as assigned by Credit Administration Leadership.

  • Drive execution of regulatory, policy, and procedural requirements; promote disciplined processes that support safety, soundness, documentation quality, and audit readiness.

  • Build strong partnerships with Commercial Banking leaders, Credit Officers, Risk partners, and executive leadership to support strategic objectives and resolve complex portfolio issues.

  • Identify, develop, and mentor future leaders; build organizational capacity, succession plans, and career development opportunities across Portfolio Management.

  • Exercise delegated credit authority and provide guidance on annual servicing, renewals, risk ratings, and portfolio management practices to support sound credit decisions.

Qualifications

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or related field required.

  • Graduate School of Banking or advanced business degree preferred.

Minimum Experience

  • Minimum 10 years of commercial banking, credit administration, portfolio management, underwriting, or related lending experience.

  • Minimum 5 years of leadership experience managing managers and/or large professional teams.

  • Demonstrated experience approving or influencing complex commercial credit decisions.

  • Proven track record leading organizational change, process improvement, and talent development initiatives.

  • Builds trusted relationships across business lines and senior leadership levels.

  • Partners effectively with Commercial Line, Credit Officers, Risk, and Credit Administration.

  • Communicates clearly, directly, and concisely.

  • Simplifies complex credit and business matters for senior leaders and stakeholders.

  • Aligns teams around decisions, priorities, and next steps.

  • Takes accountability for results and follows through on commitments.

  • Prioritizes effectively across competing demands.

  • Maintains a hands-on leadership approach when needed to support the team and the broader Bank.

Work Environment

  • Office: If the position reports to a physical Company location, the setting will be a typical office environment.

  • Remote or hybrid: For remote or hybrid positions, a secure and distraction-free setting is required, with a reliable internet connection (cable or fiber preferred, mobile hotspots not acceptable).  Hybrid positions will report to a physical Company location, as directed by the manager, and that setting will be a typical office environment.
