Job Description
Seasonal Beach Lifeguards –Seaside Fire & Rescue
Spend your summer where others vacation - and make a real difference while you're there.
The City of Seaside Fire & Rescue Department is seeking motivated, physically capable, and service-driven individuals to join our team as Seasonal Beach Lifeguards ($19.00–$23.00/hour, DOE). This is more than a summer job - it's hands-on public safety experience in one of Oregon's most visited coastal communities.
As a Beach Lifeguard, you will patrol Seaside's beach and surf zone on foot and by vehicle, actively preventing emergencies before they occur. You'll respond to water rescues and medical incidents, provide first aid and CPR, educate the public on water safety, and may take initial incident command until Fire Department personnel arrive. You'll work closely with Seaside Fire & Rescue, Police, and Dispatch in a professional, team-based emergency response environment.
What Makes This Opportunity Stand Out:
- Real-world emergency response experience alongside career Fire and Police personnel
- Ocean rescue training in dynamic Pacific surf conditions
- Hands-on use of emergency communications equipment
- Daily interaction with thousands of visitors - education, prevention, and public service
- Physical, outdoor work that builds strength, stamina, and leadership
- Strong résumé builder for careers in fire service, law enforcement, EMS, or public safety
This position requires strong swimming ability, sound judgment, and the physical stamina to perform surf rescues and assist with lifting during emergencies. A valid Oregon driver's license and completion of the required pool and ocean swim tests are mandatory prior to employment. Training is provided upon hire. CPR, EMT, or lifeguard certifications are recommended but not required to apply.
Weekend and holiday availability is required. Because this is a safety-sensitive role, candidates must pass a drug screen and background check.
️ If you're ready to serve, stay active, and help protect lives this summer, we encourage you to apply now!
