Join our team at a family-owned scrap metal yard in Bay City, Texas! We are seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused individual to fill our Full-Time Cashier position. If you are dependable, enjoy working with people, and are eager to learn, we’d love to hear from you!
Position Overview:
A Cashier at a Scrap Yard works at a scrap metal recycling facility and is primarily responsible for handling customer transactions. This includes weighing scrap metal, calculating payments based on weight and type of metal, and issuing payments to customers—all while maintaining accurate records and providing excellent customer service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Customer Interaction: Greet customers, explain the scrap metal buying process, and answer questions about metal types and their value.
- Weighing Scrap Metal: Operate the scale to accurately weigh customers' scrap metal deliveries.
- Calculating Payment: Determine the price per pound of each metal type and calculate the total payment based on weight and current market rates.
- Payment Processing: Handle cash, credit card, or check payments and issue receipts.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of customer transactions, including metal type, weight, and payment amounts.
- Sorting and Identification: Assist in identifying different types of scrap metal to ensure proper pricing when necessary.
- Team Support: Collaborate with yard personnel to ensure smooth operations and a positive customer experience.
Qualifications:
- Must be bilingual (Spanish and English) to effectively communicate with customers.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and a clean driving record.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screening.
- Strong money-handling skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work well with a team and maintain positive interpersonal relationships.
- High level of integrity, honesty, and trustworthiness.
- Willingness to learn and follow safety protocols.
Position Details:
- Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
