About the Blue Collar Tour
Blue Grit's Blue Collar Tour is a nationwide tour that stops at high schools across the country and covers all trades. Now in its seventh year (it started in 2021), the tour brings a high-energy, hands-on program to students, sparking interest in skilled trades through live demos, student participation, and a mission-first message about post-grad opportunity.
Role Summary
You're the on-mic heartbeat of every stop. You'll warm up large student crowds, run the show from start to finish, weave in safety and sponsor moments, and turn the tour's mission into moments that are fun, respectful, and memorable.
What You'll Do
- Own the mic: Open, host, and close each event. Deliver high-energy intros, transitions, and calls-to-action that land with high-school audiences.
- Engage and motivate: Read the room, invite participation, and sustain energy while reinforcing respect, safety, and inclusion.
- Tell the mission story: Share real paths into skilled trades and point students to clear next steps (QR codes, sign-ups, counselor follow-through).
- Run the show: Keep segments on time. Coordinate with instructors, AV, and school staff, and adapt to gym, shop, and fairground venues.
- Safety first: Give crisp pre-demo safety briefs (boundaries and PPE) and reinforce them throughout.
- Partner mentions: Work required acknowledgements and equipment highlights into the show naturally.
- Content moments: Set up photo and video beats, and support the media team with shout-outs and crowd cues.
- Represent well: Earn trust with administrators and teachers, and handle Q&A professionally.
- Improve the playbook: Capture engagement notes and timing to help the tour get better every stop.
What You Bring
- Stage presence and voice: Experience as an MC, host, or public speaker (assemblies, tours, sports, concerts, brand activations).
- Youth-audience savvy: Rapport, humor, and classroom-level crowd control.
- Mission alignment: Genuine belief in skilled trades and multiple post-secondary pathways.
- Adaptability and composure: Move quickly from hype to instructional to inspirational, and stay calm when tech or timing shifts.
- Professionalism and teamwork: Take feedback, protect the brand, and support school relationships.
- Safety mindset: Comfortable reinforcing PPE and demo boundaries.
- Valid driver's license and road-ready for back-to-back routes.
- School-site ready: Background check required for K-12 environments.
- Nice to have: Trades, education, coaching, youth programs, or live-event production background.
Schedule and Travel
- Dates: The tour team is expected on site starting January 4, 2027, through mid-to-late March 2027.
- Schedule: Expect 5 to 6 days a week, early load-ins, school-day assemblies, and occasional evenings.
- Travel: Heavy nationwide travel.
- Lodging: All lodging is covered. During the week the team sleeps on the tour bus, and weekend lodging is provided.
- Physical: On your feet for extended periods, projecting your voice in large spaces, with occasional lifting with team support.
Pay and Perks
- Pay: $2,000 per week plus $60 per day per diem.
- Lodging: All lodging covered, including weekends.
- Experience: Tour-life experience, portfolio-building footage, and networking with schools and industry partners.
