Breeding Technician

Job Description:

Title: Breeding TechnicianLocation: Seward, NEDuration: 0 10+ MonthsShift: 8: 00AM to 5: 00 PM Monday - FridayPay Rate: $23.00/hr.Responsibilities:Independently coordinate, set up, and execute breeding nursery and screening activities as defined by the Breeder for a specific area and/or crops of expertiseWithin soybean breeding team, assist the agronomy manager with planning, monitoring, and providing input related to the operational breeding process to ensure long-term profitability and success of the breeding programDuring peak season, longer hours may be required

Education:Associate or bachelor's degree in biology, botany, crop science, horticulture, or related fieldStudents making progress toward an associate or bachelor's degree will be consideredAdditional plant breeding courses are highly desirableMaster's or PhD are not desired as this is an entry-level/mid-level role

Experience:Background or experience in biology, botany, crop science, horticulture or related fieldExperience working in hot, cold, wet, humid, and dusty conditions in the greenhouse and the field

Knowledge / Skills:Working knowledge of horticultural practices and proceduresBasic knowledge of plant sciences and geneticsUnderstanding of agricultural practices

General Computer Skills:Organized and competent with file and data managementCompetent using Microsoft Office softwareWorking knowledge of information systems, data management systems, databases, and spreadsheets

Language and Other Skills:Excellent written and oral communication in EnglishValid Private Applicators Certificate preferred, or willingness to attain certificationValid driver's license required
