Job Description
Building Inspector l
- Grade 14 - ($26.13 - $32.74 DOQ): Must possess one or more pertinent International Code Council (ICC) certifications and State of Utah license as limited inspector, minimum of one (1) year of inspection background or construction experience preferred or must be able to obtain license within one (1) month of hire date.Building Inspector ll
- Grade 16 - ($28.80 - $36.09 DOQ): Must possess building, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing International Code Council (ICC) certifications and State of Utah License as Combination Inspector in residential and/or commercial, plus two (2) years of related experience (minimum of 18 months as an inspector).Building Inspector lll
- Grade 18 - ($31.76 - $39.79 DOQ): Must possess building, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing International Code Council (ICC) certifications and State of Utah License as Combination Inspector in both residential and commercial, plus four (4) years of related experience (minimum of three (3) years as an inspector).Department:Community DevelopmentPosition Reports to:Chief Building Official Pay Grade:14/16/18Employment Type:Full-timeExempt/Nonexempt:Non-exemptDescription:Under the direct supervision of the Chief Building Official, performs technical and administrative work including the responsibility for on-site inspections, review of construction plans and specifications for compliance with city adopted construction codes. This position ensures that all construction within the city complies with all of construction codes as amended and adopted by the State of Utah and Springville City, and other applicable city, state, and federal requirements related to construction, including Springville City Code Titles 10 and 11.Duties:Acts as a building inspector, determining that the building and use conform with the Zoning Ordinance and State Construction Codes.Performs required on-site inspections of foundation, footings, structural, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, masonry, etc.Keeps required records of inspections, reviews, communications with involved parties, etc.Communicates with builders and City staff both orally and in writing on any aspect of code enforcement or job-related matter.May be responsible to review all building plans, assist in issuing building permits, and calculating appropriate building and impact fees.May contact contractors and owners regarding building plans, fees, etc. when required.Attends meetings as required by the Chief Building Official. All other duties as assigned.Qualifications:Must be a high school graduate or equivalent. Must possess a valid Utah Driver's License or be able to obtain one after satisfying the residency requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESMust have extensive knowledge of building codes for construction, plumbing, electrical, masonry, structural, carpentry, and all standard construction procedures. Must possess the ability to work and communicate well with engineers, contractors, City employees, and the general public. Must have the ability to understand and follow both oral and written instructions and the skill and ability to read blueprints and plans. Must be able to use computer processors and various software related to the field of construction. Must be able to successfully pass a physical exam and drug test upon being hired and periodically at random thereafter while in the City's employ.Physical Demands:Work is performed in indoor and outdoor settings. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; reach; climb and balance; stoop, kneel crouch or crawl; and lift or move up to 25 lbs.Drug screen and background checks performed
