FT Faculty- Business Administration

Duty Schedule:

Monday- Friday, including weekends, flexible hours.

Summary/Objective of Position:

A full-time Diné College faculty member is responsible for instruction, assessment, advising, committee work, and service to the College in the Business Division, including applied science, economics, and technology. Courses required may include any of those in the AA and BA degree programs. Other duties may include research, publication, and specific academic endeavors. This faculty member is critical in creating, maintaining, assessing, and reflecting upon a learning environment where academic and business disciplines interweave with the College's mission to support student learning and the Diné Educational Philosophy.

  • 70 % Instruction and curriculum. Times, days, and site(s) for teaching of courses vary, and the mode of delivery may include distance education technology. As a multi-site college, faculty may be required to teach at satellite centers or travel to teach business courses for Diné College.
  • 10% Assessment of courses and programs.
  • 5% Academic advising and mentoring.
  • 15% Service on College and Committees: Service to the College through committees, student organizations, service learning, disappearing task force, etc., Other assignments such as grant management, research, or specific academic endeavors. Complies with applicable college policies and procedures as mandated in the Diné College Personnel Policies and Procedures Manual, College Catalog, business policies, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

Minimum:

  • Two years of job experience in any area of Business and/or higher education.
  • For teaching 100-400 level courses: Master's degree or higher with a minimum of 18 semester hours of upper-division and/or graduate credit in business or related field.

Preferred:

  • 3 years teaching/supervision experience in any area of Business and/or higher education.
  • For teaching 100-400 level courses: PhD/Doctorate with a minimum of 18 semester hours of upper-division and/or graduate credit in business or related field.

Knowledge:

  • The successful applicant must have the background and experience to teach courses related to business and economic development at the undergraduate and graduate level, and the ability to forge relationships to support field experiences.

Skills:

  • Effective communication - effective written, spoken, and non-verbal communication skills.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Oral fluency in Navajo is highly desirable, but not mandatory.
  • Navajo/American Indian preference is exercised but not mandatory.
  • Bilingual and bi-literate Navajo preferred but not mandatory.

Abilities:

  • A faculty is expected to have high degree of proficiency in computer software used to support the administration of higher education.
  • Software use includes but is not limited to, general office functions such as MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Internet services.
  • In addition, a faculty is expected to utilize academic-specific programs for course delivery (face-to-face, synchronous, and asynchronous), and course maintenance (such as grade submissions, posting of the syllabus, etc.).

Physical Requirements, Work Environment & Travel:

  • Although the ideal candidate will live and work in Tsaile, consideration will be given to strong candidates who will reside in Tsaile only part-time.
  • Travel to field experience placement sites will be necessary.
  • Must be able to lift 45 pounds and move furniture, if needed.

Other Requirement(s):

  • Understanding of the Navajo history and culture is desired but NOT mandatory. Spoken and written proficiency in the Navajo language is desired, but NOT mandatory.
