Department: MNR - Operations Support

Location: 420 Lexington Avenue, New York, NY 10170

Position Title: Business & Budget Management, Emerging Talent Intern

Hourly Rate: $21.00 (Graduate)

All internship positions are onsite and require regular, in-person attendance at the designated work location.

OVERVIEW OF DEPARTMENT:

As part of the Operating Division, Transportation is responsible for safe train operations and movement, train dispatching, Engineer and Conductor compliance with Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) and Metro-North Rules, crew dispatching, fleet management, and all track outage coordination and planning.

We safely and efficiently operate approximately 955 trains daily over 33,000 train miles which equates to an approximate 270,000 daily trips. This is done through a dedicated workforce from various sub-departments within Transportation consisting of nearly 1800 employees.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Working with team leads, to review and document existing business processes.
  • Develop clear process flowcharts, and provide actionable recommendations to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and overall operational performance.
  • Support data analysis and reporting efforts by collecting, organizing, and analyzing data.
  • Assist in developing tools and resources that streamline processes and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Validate datasets to ensure accuracy, consistency, and integrity.
  • Support ongoing projects, including Power BI initiatives and Access database development, by assisting with data preparation, dashboard creation, reporting, and maintaining well-structured.
  • Work with team leads to streamline the process of maintaining monthly accounts payable activities to facilitate developing trends and forecasts.
  • Support the efforts to create tool to update monthly financial performance reports.

PROJECTS:

  • Process Improvement & Operational Efficiency: Working with team leads, review and document existing business processes, develop clear process flowcharts, and provide actionable recommendations to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and overall operational performance.
  • Data Analysis & Reporting: Support data analysis and reporting efforts by collecting, organizing, and analyzing data, and assist in developing tools and resources that streamline processes and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Business Intelligence & Systems Support: Support ongoing projects, including Power BI initiatives and Access database development, by assisting with data preparation, dashboard creation, reporting, and maintaining well-structured data systems to meet business needs.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is a must.
  • The candidate should possess organizational, analytical and communication skills.
  • The candidate should be able to work well under pressure and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • The candidate should have a keen eye for detail and be able to work independently while being an active team player.
  • Strong MS Access and Excel skills required.
  • Familiarity with Power BI is a plus.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

  • Matriculated in a graduate program in good standing with at least 2.8 GPA
  • Major(s) Preferred: Finance, Business Management, or related field.
