Job Description
The Business Developer is responsible for identifying, researching, and cultivating new business opportunities within the commercial market—specifically office and retail sectors. This role focuses on strategic prospecting, relationship building, and long‑term client engagement. The Business Developer creates and executes targeted outreach strategies, initiates contact with potential clients, and manages ongoing relationships to position Hoffman as a trusted partner for future development and construction projects.
Market Research & Opportunity Development
- Proactively research databases and market sources to identify prospects that align with Hoffman’s ideal customer profile.
- Seek out new project opportunities within an approximate 50‑mile radius of Appleton, Wisconsin.
- Build and maintain relationships with organizations, influencers, and individuals who have early insight into upcoming projects or development activity.
Client Engagement & Relationship Management
- Initiate and nurture relationships with potential clients, ensuring consistent follow‑up and value‑driven communication.
- Involve internal team members strategically to strengthen client relationships while minimizing disruption to project work.
- Maintain a professional, knowledgeable presence in the market to represent Hoffman’s capabilities and values.
Sales Strategy & Internal Collaboration
- Utilize HubSpot CRM to track activity, maintain accurate records, and support internal communication and accountability.
- Provide input on proposal strategies, interview preparation, and other key sales functions.
- Participate in learning opportunities to deepen understanding of project delivery, construction processes, and industry trends.
Requirements
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, spreadsheets, file‑sharing platforms, and general business software; ability to adapt as systems evolve.
- Skilled in the use of social media platforms such as LinkedIn and Facebook for professional networking and outreach.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to adapt to a wide range of client personalities, knowledge levels, and interaction styles.
- Excellent sales and persuasive abilities; able to influence decisions through preparation, persistence, and alignment with a prospect’s mission and goals.
- Highly organized, resourceful, and consistent in follow‑through.
- Self‑directed and comfortable working independently; majority of time spent outside the office.
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively with clients and internal colleagues.
- Three to ten years of experience in commercial‑sector sales, design, construction, or related leadership roles.
- Minimum of a two‑year associate degree.
Physical & Additional Requirements
- Ability to work extended hours and occasional overnight travel (less than 10%).
- Valid driver’s license and insurability under company policies.
