Job Description
About Atomic Semi
Atomic Semi is building a small, fast semiconductor fab.
It’s already possible to build this with today’s technology and a few simplifications. We’ll build the tools ourselves so we can quickly iterate and improve.
We’re building a small team of exceptional, hands-on engineers to make this happen. Mechanical, electrical, hardware, computer, and process. We’ll own the stack from atoms to architecture. Our team is optimistic about the future and we want to continue pushing the limits of technology.
Smaller is better. Faster is better. Building it ourselves is better.
We believe our team and lab can build anything. We’ve set up 3D printers, a wide array of microscopes, e-beam writers, general fabrication equipment - and whatever is missing, we’ll just invent along the way.
Atomic was founded by Sam Zeloof and Jim Keller. Sam is best known for making chips in his garage, and Jim has been a leader in the semiconductor industry for the past 40 years.
About the role
We're hiring a Business Operations Generalist to help build and run the operational foundation that lets Atomic scale.
We believe our operational systems should be as thoughtful and ambitious as the products we build. We have solid foundations with financial infrastructure, business systems, and core processes in place across the company. This is a role for someone who doesn't want to copy a playbook but help write one; someone who sees around corners, helps the people around them make better decisions, and takes genuine ownership of hard, open-ended problems. If you're energized by variety, motivated by mission, and excited to build something that's never been done before, this role is for you.
This person should be equally comfortable owning the details and thinking about the bigger picture. You'll work across Finance, Legal, Compliance, HR, Operations, Facilities, IT, and more as a trusted partner. One week you might be closing the books or designing a reporting workflow with an engineering team; the next you're helping Legal stand up a compliance process or coordinating a facilities project.
Responsibilities
Own projects end-to-end and cross-functionally across Finance, Accounting, Legal, Compliance, HR, Operations, Facilities, and IT
Maintain and improve financial operations including budgeting, expense management, and reporting using tools like Excel, QuickBooks, Ramp, and ERP systems
Support legal and compliance workflows like contract management, policy documentation, regulatory tracking, etc.
Be a trusted, proactive business partner to teams across the company by helping them structure problems, surface inputs they may not have considered, and reach well-informed decisions
Identify processes that won't scale, propose solutions, and lead implementation; from defining requirements and building alignment to automating workflows and standing up new systems
Keep projects organized and stakeholders aligned using tools like Linear, Notion, or Confluence
Required Experience
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
2+ years in investment banking, management consulting, private equity, internal operations at a high-growth startup, or technical program management — we care more about what you've built and owned than your exact title or background
Strong foundation in GAAP, budgeting, expense management, and financial reporting, with hands-on experience in tools like Excel, QuickBooks, Ramp, or ERP systems
At least one significant, multi-component project you fully owned end-to-end
Proven ability to manage complex, multi-stakeholder projects on tight timelines
Genuine excitement to work across many domains with a builder's mindset
Strong quantitative and communication skills, with advanced Excel proficiency (financial modeling, pivot tables, power query)
Self-motivated, highly accountable, and energized by a fast-moving environment
Nice-to-have
Experience at a company with a physical product such as hardware, industrials, manufacturing, or similar; operations look meaningfully different when atoms are involved
Background in engineering, technical program management, or a highly cross-functional technical role
Experience in legal, compliance, HR, or IT
Startup or high-growth experience where you've had to build from scratch
