Job Description
Dexter is the premier manufacturer and supplier of axles, suspension, brakes, doors, venting products, trailer parts, accessories, and towing components serving the commercial trailer, RV, heavy-duty, marine, agriculture, and manufactured housing markets. The Buyer/Planner is responsible for coordinating and executing procurement and planning activities to support operational requirements. This role ensures the timely and cost-effective acquisition of raw materials, goods, and services while maintaining high standards of quality, accuracy, and supplier performance. The Buyer/Planner collaborates cross-functionally to support production goals and drive continuous improvement within the supply chain function.
- Review and evaluate purchase requisitions for completeness and accuracy
- Source and engage vendors to obtain pricing, availability, and delivery information
- Evaluate and select suppliers based on quality, cost, delivery performance, and overall value
- Analyze market trends and pricing to support cost-effective purchasing decisions
- Determine appropriate procurement methods, including direct purchases and competitive bidding
- Prepare and issue purchase orders and bid requests
- Review bid proposals and negotiate contracts within established budgetary guidelines and scope of authority
- Maintain accurate procurement records, including pricing, delivery performance, product quality, and inventory levels
- Partner with Quality, Operations, and suppliers to resolve issues related to defective or non-conforming materials and implement corrective actions
- Approve invoices for payment in accordance with company procedures
- Expedite material deliveries to meet production and operational needs
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within purchasing and planning functions
- Perform additional duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Entrepreneurial Studies, or a related field required
- Minimum of three (3) years of related experience in a manufacturing environment
- Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access)
- SQL experience preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- High level of attention to detail and organizational skills
- Analytical thinking and problem-solving capability
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time
- Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds
