KEENE FAMILY YMCA JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Camp Behavior Support Specialist                                              Hours per week: 25 hours

FLSA Status: Part-time-Non-Exempt -Seasonal                                          Pay Range: $20.00 per hour

Reports to: School Age Childcare and Camp Director                              Revision Date: 3.10.2026

POSITION SUMMARY:

Supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Builds members and the community’s understanding of the YMCA’s impact. 

This position provides direct supervision and addresses behavioral concerns to a group of children and leadership/supervision to lead and assistant staff in a seasonal day camp setting. Provides positive engagement with youth in a safe, nurturing environment with a diversity, equity, and inclusion lens. Provides quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Builds personal and meaningful relationships with YMCA members, participants, volunteers, and guests. While exemplifying Y’s commitment to the four-character values of caring, honesty, respect & responsibility and responds to all member and community inquiries promptly.
  2. Supporting camp participants struggling with managing their behaviors.
  3. Provide direct supervision and instruction to camp participants following the camp guidelines. 
  4. Assist camp participants reregulate and support a safe environment.
  5. Cultivates strong working relationships with YMCA members, staff, participants, and families.
  6. Follow all YMCA emergency and safety procedures.
  7. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary and gives them to the Camp Director promptly. While reporting problems, complaints, or concerns of participants to the Camp Director in a prompt fashion.
  8. Participates in staff meetings, training, events, reviews, and other scheduled events.
  9. Maintains attendance records in an orderly and efficient manner.
  10. Upholds all YMCA policies, procedures, standards, and code of conduct.
  11. Project a positive, enthusiastic, and professional image on the job.
  12. Be self-motivated and can work independently or as a team member.
  13. Be punctual and dependable.
  14. Fulfills any other functions appointed by the YMCA administration.
Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. At least 18 years of age.
  2. Higher Education or Certificates in Special Education/Behavior Management is preferred.
  3. Must pass a background check and finger printing.
  4. 2+ years of experience working in Behavior Management. 
  5. Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living/education, music (instrumental or songs), dramatic arts, aquatics, sports/PE/recreational games, creative arts, etcetera.
  6. Strong Desire to work with youth grades K-8
  7. Strong Behavioral management skills
  8. Ability to actively implement program activities. 
  9. Effective verbal communication skills
  10. CPR/First Aid/AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training completed prior to camp start date.
  11. Completed health form prior to start date.
  12. Bachelor's degree in a Field related to Education or Behavior management is preferred.
