ABOUT BUILDING BRIDGES ACROSS THE RIVER: Building Bridges Across the River (Building Bridges) provides residents East of the Anacostia River access to the best-in-class facilities, programs and partnerships in arts and culture, economic opportunity, education, recreation, health and well-being. Building Bridges envisions a future in which the residents East of the Anacostia River experience vital, thriving communities characterized by social, cultural, economic, and racial equity. In order to combat past and current structural inequities, Building Bridges develops and manages facilities and programs in Wards 7 & 8, including the Town Hall Education Arts Recreation Campus (THEARC), THEARC Farm, THEARC Theater, 11th Street Bridge Park, and Skyland Workforce Center.

ABOUT THE POSITION: The Campus Grounds & Facilities Tech will be responsible for maintaining and repairing Building Bridges’ facilities to ensure a safe, clean, and functional environment for staff, partners, program participants, and visitors. Duties include performing routine maintenance, minor repairs, inspections, grounds, and supporting event setup. The ideal candidate is proactive, detail-oriented, able to troubleshoot maintenance issues and complete tasks efficiently while working collaboratively with the facilities team.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs including changing light bulbs, drywall, painting, and general building upkeep.
  • Conduct regular facility inspections to identify maintenance needs, safety hazards, and building code violations.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergencies to minimize downtime.
  • Ensure a safe, clean, and functional environment, included but not limited to trash pick up, ground maintenance, snow removal, stripping and waxing floors etc.
  • Assist with facility setup, event preparation, and breakdown as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, supplies, and equipment.
  • Collaborate with vendors and contractors for specialized repairs and service.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and company policies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or experience in related fields preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in facilities maintenance, cleaning, building repair, or a related trade.
  • Ability to perform hands-on work including lifting, climbing, and operating tools and equipment safely.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Good communication skills and professionalism when interacting with staff, partners, vendors, and visitors.

Requirements

  • Must be available to work weekends, Saturday and Sundays.
  • Flexibility to respond to after-hours emergencies as needed.

This position pays between twenty and twenty five dollars an hour.
