CertificationRequirementSuccessfully complete Advanced First-Aid/CPR/AED certification within one year of hire and maintain throughout employment.RequiredSuccessfully complete Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification within six months of hire and maintain throughout employment.RequiredPossess a valid California Bureau of Security & Investigative Services Guard Card within six months of hire and maintain throughout employment.RequiredSuccessfully complete a State of California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training 832 PC course within initial six months of employment and maintain certification throughout employment.RequiredMust meet CANRA compliance requirement per California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act ("CANRA," Penal Code sections 11164-11174.4).Required

Experience

ExperienceRequirementExperience working in a higher education setting.PreferredDemonstrated experience with speaking and presenting information to small and large diverse groups.RequiredExperience patrolling assigned areas for safety.RequiredKnowledge of and experience enforcing rules and regulations, security policies and procedures, applicable state and local laws, while ensuring the rights of community members.Required

Special Conditions

Special ConditionRequirementAs a condition of employment, must successfully complete an extensive background investigation, including successfully completing an FBI fingerprinting process and maintain the successful completion of an FBI fingerprinting process throughout employment.RequiredMust possess and maintain a valid CA Driver License in accordance with the California Department of Motor Vehicles.RequiredAbility to work variable shifts, including: evenings; nights; weekends; and holidays. Including the ability to work overtime, as needed, including hours outside of normal shift hours.Required

Minimum Requirements

• Demonstrated ability to serve and work well with diverse community members, peers and superiors.• Strong ability to maintain a professional and impartial stance in all situations (especially emergencies).• Ability to handle a high degree of public contact responsibility.• Proven ability to accept instructions and direction from superiors in a positive manner.• Skill to accurately complete various reports and forms. Ability to document information and maintain accurate records. Ability to use personal computers, printers and word-processing and database software (e.g., Word and Outlook) in a networked environment.• Excellent interpersonal skills and abilities to relay rules, regulations, policies and directives. Strong verbal and written skills and ability to effectively communicate. Knowledge of English grammar, spelling, punctuation, editing, and proofreading methods.• Ability to prioritize tasks and independently organize available work time to meet assigned responsibilities.• Ability to spend long hours on foot patrol of buildings, grounds, etc.• Must display exceptional customer service and communication skills.
