JOB SUMMARY
The Program Manager I - Cancer Education Specialist plays a critical role in advancing the mission of the Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Comprehensive Cancer Center (AHWFBCCC) by reducing cancer burden across its 30-county catchment area through evidence-based education, prevention, and research awareness. Serving as a trusted liaison between the cancer center and community partners, this role delivers culturally responsive cancer education, supports bi-directional community engagement, and promotes early detection, screening, and access to research opportunities. Frequent travel throughout the 30-county catchment area is required, including some evenings and weekends.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree with two years of relevant experience required.
Master's degree in Health Administration, Business Administration or related field preferred.
Two years' experience in project management, program management development, administration or supervisory experience required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Community Cancer Education & Outreach
- Deliver evidence-based cancer education focused on prevention, early detection, screening, and access to care.
- Support and participate in outreach initiatives, health fairs, and signature events across the catchment area.
- Provide culturally responsive presentations, workshops, and group education tailored to community needs and priorities.
Community Engagement & Partnership Support
- Represent AHWFBCCC and COE as a trusted, professional presence in the community.
- Support relationship-building with community organizations, faith-based partners, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders.
- Incorporate community feedback and lived experience into education activities to support bi-directional engagement.
Research Education & Engagement
- Increase community awareness of research opportunities, including clinical trials, through education and outreach.
- Support research engagement efforts by participating in consultations and community-facing education activities.
- Assist with facilitating community participation in research engagement activities as appropriate.
Documentation, Data & Reporting
- Accurately document education and outreach activities in required tracking systems in alignment with COE and CCSG expectations.
- Support data collection, activity reporting, and evaluation efforts for grants and quality improvement initiatives.
Compliance, Safety & Quality
- Promote continuity of care by facilitating appropriate referrals and warm handoffs to screening navigation or clinical teams.
- Adhere to institutional, ethical, regulatory, and cultural standards in all education and engagement activities.
- Maintain high standards for accurate, respectful, and culturally appropriate cancer education.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
- Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) certification or similar public health related certification preferred but not required.
- Bilingual (Spanish preferred).

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Flexibility with work schedule and location.
Frequent travel throughout the catchment area is required, including some evenings and weekends.
