Position Highlights:

• Logistics:
  • Pay: $300 - $400 per hour.
  • Contract Type: 1 base year with 1, 1-year option periods.
  • Schedule: Operating room hours are 7:00 to 5:30 Monday through Friday.
  • Location: 1700 N. Wheeling Street, Aurora, CO.
• Requirements:
  • Authorization to work in the U.S. permanently, without sponsorship.
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Board Certified/Board Eligible by the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA).
  • Advance certification in Transesophageal Echocardiography.
  • Fellowship training in critical care of cardiac anesthesia.
  • Experience with CABG and cardiac valve procedures.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
  • Previous experience with the VA is a plus.

What does a typical day look like for the Cardiac Anesthesiologist?

You will:

• Operating room hours are 7:00 to 5:30 Monday through Friday.
• Estimated 95% of the time is involved in direct patient care.
  • Acute pain management, airway assistance, CPR, sedation, and anesthesia outside of the operating room as needed, and other tasks assigned by the anesthesia in charge for the day.
  • Comprehensive clinical anesthesiology services, including patients undergoing cardiac surgery, orthopedic joint replacement, major vascular, thoracic, neurosurgical, plastic, ENT, urologic, and ophthalmologic operations.
  • Clinical care of patients undergoing electroconvulsive therapy and diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in the cardiac catheterization laboratory, electrophysiology, gastrointestinal, and radiological suites.
  • Primary coverage for all patients in the short stay unit, diagnostic trans esophageal echocardiography for medical and surgical patients, and emergency airway management.
  • Consultative services at the patient's bedside if the patient is not ambulatory, and in the clinic setting if the patient is able to report to the outpatient clinic. 
• Estimated 5% of the time is not involved in direct patient care.

What qualifications do you look for?

If selected, candidates will need to complete credentialing and onboarding requirements consistent with VA medical staff processes.
