OverviewThe Echo Technologist Lead assists the Director/Manager in the technical and operational oversight of the Echo Lab, ensuring efficient day-to-day operations and high-quality patient care. This role serves as a key resource for team members, supporting clinical excellence, regulatory compliance, and continuous performance improvement.The Lead Echo Tech is responsible for coordinating workflow, maintaining accreditation standards, supporting staff development, and performing all clinical duties of an Echo Technologist.ResponsibilitiesOperational & Technical LeadershipSupport daily operations of the Echo Lab, ensuring efficient workflow, productivity, and quality outcomesAssign staff responsibilities based on skill level and patient care needs to ensure safe coverageMaintain schedules, monitor staffing levels, and adjust as needed to meet patient volumesOversee tracking of non-invasive procedures and department utilizationEnsure proper maintenance of equipment, supplies, and inventoryClinical ExcellencePerform all echocardiography procedures in accordance with established protocolsMaintain competency in all non-invasive echo (and/or vascular) studiesDemonstrate proficiency in IV access, contrast administration, and IV removalPrepare, document, and administer IV contrast per departmental policiesEnsure high standards of patient care, safety, and satisfactionQuality, Compliance & AccreditationEnsure compliance with departmental policies, procedures, and regulatory standardsMaintain adherence to ICAEL accreditation requirementsMonitor quality control processes and address deficiencies proactivelyParticipate in and support performance improvement initiatives, including PDCA cyclesEstablish and monitor productivity and quality benchmarksEducation & Staff DevelopmentServe as a resource and mentor to team members and studentsTrain and orient new hires; ensure completion of orientation checklists and competenciesEnsure completion of annual mandatory education and competency validationAssist in developing departmental education programs and in-service trainingCollaborate with leadership and Medical Director on instructional course developmentLeadership & CollaborationProvide feedback to leadership regarding staff performance, including coaching and development needsAssist with performance evaluations and disciplinary processes as neededParticipate in the interview process and provide candidate feedbackAct as a liaison between staff, physicians, and leadership to promote effective communicationSupport budget planning, including operational and capital needsAssist in planning for department design, workflow, and space utilization

QualificationsMinimum of 2 years of experience in echocardiography/cardiologyAble to work under pressure and maintain patient confidentialityAbility to perform all non-invasive Echo studies or Vascular studiesCompetency in IV access, contrast administration and IV removal

CredentialsARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologist) - Echo TechBLS Certification - Basic Life Support through American Heart Association

EducationAssociate's degree
