General Cardiologist Opportunity

General Cardiologist

to join a mission-driven team where your work makes a real difference in the lives of our nation's Veterans.

Provide inpatient cardiology care in a supportive, collegial environment. You'll work alongside

Hospitalists

managing complex cases, covering a

13-bed inpatient unit and 5-bed ICU , while also performing

stress testing, interpreting echocardiograms , and contributing to outpatient clinic services.

  1. Preventive Cardiology
  • Risk assessment (hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, family history)
  • Lifestyle modification counseling (diet, exercise, smoking cessation)
  1. Diagnostic Evaluation
  • Physical examination and history review for cardiac symptoms (chest pain, dyspnea, palpitations, syncope)
  • Interpretation of diagnostic tests:
  • Electrocardiogram (ECG/EKG)
  • Echocardiography
  • Stress testing (exercise, pharmacologic)
  • Holter monitor and event recorders
  • Cardiac CT, MRI (often coordinated with subspecialists)
  1. Management of Common Cardiovascular Diseases
  • Coronary artery disease (stable/unstable angina, myocardial infarction-post-acute management)
  • Heart failure
  • Arrhythmias (atrial fibrillation, supraventricular tachycardia, ventricular arrhythmias)
  • Hypertension
  • Hyperlipidemia
  • Valvular heart disease (aortic, mitral, tricuspid)
  • Cardiomyopathies
  1. Coordination of Care:
  • Referral to subspecialists as needed (interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, advanced heart failure)
  • Collaboration with primary care and other specialties for complex patient care

Procedures (typically non-invasive):

  • Interpretation of non-invasive studies
  • In some cases, performance of transthoracic echocardiograms, exercise stress testsExclusions (usually not part of general cardiologist scope):
  • Invasive procedures (e.g. cardiac catheterization, angioplasty, device implantation)
  • Advanced heart failure therapies (LVAD, heart transplant)
  • Complex electrophysiology procedures (ablation, pacemaker/ICD insertion)Pay:

Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increasesPaid Time Off:

50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)Retirement:

Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VAInsurance:

Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)Licensure:

1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territoryCME:
