The High School ELA Teacher provides standards-aligned instruction in reading, writing, speaking, listening, language, and literature to students in grades 9–12. The teacher creates a safe, orderly, and engaging classroom environment; monitors student progress; communicates with families and staff; and supports students' academic growth, graduation readiness, and overall well-being The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge of Tennessee Academic Standards for English Language Arts, be able to manage classroom behavior and maintain a positive, professional learning environment, display strong oral and written communication skills, and demonstrate the ability to use instructional technology, assessment data, and district-approved digital tools effectively and responsibly.
Essential Functions
- Proficiency in appropriately integrating instructional technology (e.g., Google Classroom, Chromebooks, graphing calculators, educational learning platforms).
- Commitment to data‑driven instruction and differentiating lessons to meet diverse learner needs.
- Blend direct instruction, inquiry‑based tasks, and collaborative problem‑solving activities for a balanced learning experience.
- Demonstrate strong written and oral communication when working with students, parents, and fellow educators.
- Maintain effective classroom management strategies to foster a respectful, focused learning environment.
- Integrate digital tools, such as interactive whiteboards and online platforms, to enhance understanding in the content area while relying on the best practices for engaged, rigorous instruction as the foundation for their classroom.
- Commit to ongoing professional growth, equity‑minded teaching, and supporting a diverse, rural student population.
- Active teaching, bell-to-bell, every day, working closely with students.
