Position Summary: The Athletic Trainer, works collaboratively with both clinical and nonclinical teams focusing on providing safe and effective care for patients with musculoskeletal conditions.

Position Requirements

Education: Bachelor's degree in athletic training is required.

Licensure: To be licensed in the state in which services are provided, generally Nebraska & Iowa required.

Certification:

  • National Certification by NATA BOC (Board of Certification for Athletic Trainers) required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required.

Experience: 1+ years of healthcare experience preferred.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Capable of traveling between locations on short notice.

Essential Job Functions

  • Escort patients to examination rooms and record/enter their vital signs and medical history into Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
  • Prepare patients for exams and in-office procedures.
  • Assist providers during examinations, injections, and in-office procedures.
  • Prepare injections, treatments, and orders as directed by licensed providers.
  • Prepare specimens for external lab testing.
  • Provide oral/and or written patient education on treatment plans, pre/post-surgery, medications, and self-care practices.
  • Keep patient documentation and records in the EMR system accurate and up-to-date.
  • Coordinate the scheduling of patient appointments, surgeries, and outpatient tests.
  • Patient communication:
    • Respond promptly to patient inquiries and gather information to assess their condition.
    • Consult with providers regarding patient care needs.
    • Document all patient communication in EMR.
  • Ensure that providers have reviewed and signed all reports.
  • Oversee clinic flow and prepare equipment, exam rooms, and charts for upcoming patient visits.
  • Ensure proper maintenance of medical equipment and supplies.
  • Follow infection-control protocols and maintain a clean, safe environment.
  • Adhere to safety and regulatory guidelines, such as HIPAA, OSHA and Joint Commission.
  • Assist with the orientation and training of new team members as needed.
  • Assist with monitoring medical supply inventory.
  • Cleaning and Disinfection to include the use of sterilization equipment, as well as keeping accurate records to comply with external regulations by following policies and procedures.
  • All other duties as assigned within scope and for which competency has been demonstrated.
  • Manage Injury Triage platform as assigned.
  • All other duties as assigned

Physical requirements: This position is classified as Medium Work in the Dictionary of Occupational Titles, requiring the exertion of 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Must be able to pass background check. We also conduct pre-employment physical and drug testing. Any job offer will be contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment physical with a drug screen, background check and obtaining active licensures per job requirements.
