Position Overview

CLFC is expanding its nationwide federal legal-support practice, supporting U.S. Attorney's Offices, federal courts, administrative proceedings, state agencies, and commercial litigation. CLFC is building its certified court reporter roster in the Denver, CO market. CLFC directly contracts and self-performs this work.

This is a professional independent-contractor opportunity built around a transparent revenue-share model that aligns CLFC and the reporter and scales automatically with expedited and rush work. Reporters are considered for recurring federal, state, and deposition assignments as CLFC receives and performs court reporting awards nationwide, rather than for a single engagement. Assignment volume and annual earnings are not guaranteed.

The successful reporter is a certified professional who produces a complete and accurate verbatim record, meets demanding federal transcript turnaround and format standards, and upholds strict confidentiality, including grand jury secrecy where applicable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce a complete, accurate, verbatim stenographic record of grand jury sessions, depositions, and hearings.
  • Prepare and deliver certified transcripts within the applicable turnaround tiers, from ordinary through daily and hourly expedited delivery, in the prescribed federal transcript format.
  • Maintain a redundant backup recording and provide read-back as required during proceedings.
  • Provide realtime output and rough drafts where the proceeding or contract requires it.
  • Mark, manage, and maintain custody of exhibits in accordance with the proceeding's requirements.
  • Uphold strict confidentiality and, for grand jury work, Federal Rule of Criminal Procedure 6(e) secrecy at all times.
  • Deliver transcripts through secure, encrypted channels and maintain a documented chain of custody.
  • Coordinate scheduling, assignment claims, and confirmations through CLFC's BRIDGE App.
  • Maintain certification, licensure, and clearance in good standing, and complete assignment-required compliance training.

Required Qualifications

  • RPR (NCRA) certification or an active state Certified Shorthand Reporter (CSR) license valid in the jurisdiction of the assignment. RPR is the operative screen in states without a CSR license.
  • Minimum 3 years of professional court reporting experience.
  • U.S. citizen or national, or lawful permanent resident seeking citizenship, with U.S. residency for at least 3 of the last 5 years.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Federal Rule of Criminal Procedure 6(e) grand jury confidentiality requirements.
  • For deposition assignments, a Notary Public commission in the jurisdiction of the assignment, or the ability to obtain one.
  • Ability to produce federal-format transcripts to line, character, and margin specifications and to meet expedited and daily turnaround.
  • Proficiency with stenographic CAT software such as Case CATalyst or Eclipse, and reliable professional equipment with redundant backup recording, or use of CLFC-furnished equipment on designated federal assignments.
  • Ability to pass a federal background investigation and obtain the security clearance required for grand jury and other secure proceedings.
  • Professional reliability, punctuality, and confidentiality discipline.

Strongly Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Realtime Reporter (CRR) and/or Registered Merit Reporter (RMR).
  • Active member of the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA).
  • Federal court reporting experience with a U.S. District Court, U.S. Attorney's Office, or grand jury proceedings.
  • Active or clearance-eligible federal security clearance.
  • Licensure or certification across multiple jurisdictions or states.
  • Experience coordinating with legal videographers on synchronized video-transcript proceedings.

Compensation and Engagement Details

  • Independent Contractor (1099) engagement.
  • Revenue share of 70% of transcript revenue based on the applicable contract rate schedule, with expedited and rush transcripts shared proportionally.
  • Paid appearance time at $40.00 per hour, so time is compensated even when transcript volume is low.
  • Cancellation compensation paid in accordance with the governing contract.
  • Assignments are accepted individually; contractors remain free to accept or decline based on availability and location.
  • Travel reimbursed per contract and assignment terms.
  • Assignment dispatch, claims, confirmations, and invoicing handoff managed through CLFC's BRIDGE App, with administrative support for credentialing and payment.
