Certified Escort Driver (Pevo)

Position Title: ESCORT DRIVER (PILOT CAR FOR OVERSIZE TRANSPORT)

Location: FIELD OFFICE

FLSA Class: NON-EXEMPT

Responsible to: REGIONAL TRANSPORTATION MANAGER

Position Summary: The Escort Driver supports heavy haul operations by guiding oversize and overweight loads safely along designated routes. This role is responsible for identifying route hazards, assisting with traffic control, and ensuring compliance with all permit and safety requirements. The position is critical to protecting drivers, equipment, and the motoring public.

Responsibilities:

• Escort oversize and overweight loads to and from project sites in accordance with state and local regulations.
• Maintain constant communication with truck drivers and other escort vehicles via radio and phone.
• Monitor traffic conditions and assist with the safe movement of loads, particularly in congested or high-risk areas.
• Identify and communicate potential hazards, including low clearances, overhead utilities, narrow roadways, and construction zones.
• Operate escort equipment such as warning signs, amber lights, safety flags, and height poles as required.
• Conduct or assist with route surveys prior to transport when needed.
• Maintain proper escort positioning in compliance with permit requirements.
• Ensure company vehicles and all safety equipment are clean, properly maintained and operational.
• Report route conditions, delays, or safety concerns to drivers and operations personnel.
• Support yard operations and perform additional tasks when not actively escorting loads.
• Maintain professional relationships with team members, terminal staff, customers, and visitors.
• Remain knowledgeable of route restrictions, including height, weight, and roadway limitations.
• Work a flexible schedule based on load timing and operational needs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• Valid driver's license required.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• No more than two moving violations within the past three years.
• Pilot/Escort Vehicle Operator certification required.
• Knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and FMCSA regulations.
• Previous experience escorting oversize or overweight loads required.
