Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision and direction of the Licensed Occupational Therapist (OT), the Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA) provides effective treatment and clinical activities in the provision of occupational therapy so that effective and optimum quality of patient care is delivered.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Licensure/Certification:

  • Graduation from an Occupational Assistant program with a minimum of an Associate’s degree and successful completion of clinical internship requirements. 

  • Current Licensure or eligibility for licensure by the Board of Medical Examiners, State of California required. 

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Knowledge:

  • One year of professional experience as an Occupational Therapist Assistant preferred.

  • Basic knowledge and understanding of occupational therapy procedures and techniques required for providing routine inpatient, SNF and outpatient physical therapy treatments. 

  • Knowledge of infection control procedures. 

  • Knowledge of proper body mechanics.

Skills:

  • Ability to follow directions accurately. 

  • Ability to establish effective relationships with patients and fellow employees. 

  • Ability to assume responsibility for updating skills as required by hospital policy. 

  • Ability to walk and stand for long periods, stoop and mechanically operate wheelchair accessories repetitively throughout the day and position/transfer dependent patients in and out of bed without assistance.
