Age SpecificResponsibility
Must be able todemonstratethe knowledge and skills necessary to provide careappropriate tothe age of the patients served in assigned department. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the department’s policies and procedures.
Summary
Provides occupational therapy services as assigned by, and under the supervision of, an occupational therapist. Keeps treatment skills updated through continuing education,evidence basedresearch, and program development. Perform job responsibilitiesin accordance withthe program’s strategicobjectivesand goals to carry out organizational strategicobjectives.
Essential Job Responsibilities

Staff will provide patient care, treatment, and services within the scope of their license, certification or registration and as required by law and regulation.
Provides patient care. (Q)
Assistsoccupational therapist in treatment planning and conducting evaluation procedures.
Assiststhe occupational therapist in treating patientsutilizingmodalities, therapeutic exercise, assistive devices, and functional activities.
Provides verbal and/or written feedback to primary occupational therapistregardingall significant observations or changes in the patient’s condition, reaction, and response totreatment.Aidsthe occupational therapist in estimating equipment and supply needs and mayparticipatein the acquisition and inventory of these items.
Provides coverage of patients in the absence of other staff.
Document’spatient’s status and progress according toestablishedinternal/external time standards and adherence to reimbursement guidelines. (Q)
Communicates with otherappropriate peopleto integrate OT treatment as necessary, or as directed. (Q, S)
Participates in educationalprogramfor patients,patient'sfamilies, and health care workersregardingtreatment procedures, functional activities, and home programs.
Participates in patient care conferences as requested.
Participates in various meetings and in-services as assigned. (Q,P)
Follows all hospital policy and procedures including but not limited to patient confidentiality and infection control. (Q)
Meets or exceeds program productivity expectations. (F)
Provides discipline specific coverage (following cross training orientation) within the Mary Free Bed system as requested. (F, S)

Serves as clinical instructor for occupational therapist assistant students. Supervises, teaches, and evaluatesskillsof students and volunteers. Communicates with participating universitiesregardingskill levels of students. (S, P, G)

Essential Job Qualifications
Graduateofan accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
Certification by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy.
Licensure with the State of Michigan.
The physical ability to lift, position, and transport patients with physical impairments.
Possesses and maintains BLS certification to meet department/program protocol.
